Zechariah 13:7 – 14:21: A Day for the Lord is Coming
I. REVIEW – THE BURDEN OF THE LORD AGAINST ISRAEL:
A. In the earlier portions of Zechariah’s prophetic ministry, God expresses a great zeal to establish Jerusalem into her
destiny and punish the nations that have done that city harm:
And the LORD answered the angel who talked to me, with good and comforting words. 14 So the angel who
spoke with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I am zealous for Jerusalem and
for Zion with great zeal. 15 I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease; for I was a little angry, and they
helped—but with evil intent.” (Zechariah 1:13-15)
B. God’s zeal is to establish Jerusalem as the “City of Truth”, or the center of His world government and place from
which He will transform the earth:
Again the word of the LORD of hosts came, saying, 2 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I am zealous for Zion
with great zeal; with great fervor I am zealous for her.’ “Thus says the LORD: ‘I will return to Zion, and dwell
in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, the Mountain of the LORD of hosts,
the Holy Mountain.’ (Zechariah 8:1-3)
The word that Isaiah the son of Amos saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. Now it shall come to pass in the
latter days that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall
be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it. 3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let
us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we
shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
(Isaiah 2:1-3)
C. Both the nations and Israel herself constitute the greatest obstacles to God’s plan to establish Jerusalem. Both the
nations and Israel stand opposed in their rage and rebellion against God and His plans for the earth; instead the desire of
man is to establish his own societal expression in a manner that reflects and pleases his own carnal desires apart from
God’s value system:
Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the
rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break Their
bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.” (Psalm 2:1-3)
D. God’s desire and merciful plan was never to choose one group (the faithful throughout history / the Bride of Christ)
at the expense of or forsaking the others (Israel and the nations of the earth). Rather, the book of Zechariah reveals
God’s plan was to establish a prayer and worship movement through the faithful remnant that will play a dynamic role in
redeeming (provoking) Israel and the nations. In other words, God had purposed in His heart to raise up people from
within Israel and nations to birth His plan on earth; or human partners in voluntary love who would contend with Him to
establish the destiny of Israel and the nations:
For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own
opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And
so all Israel will be saved… (Romans 11:25-26)
1. Jesus will partner with His Bride to bring about the provocation of Israel (both positive and negative) unto her
redemption and fullness; this will in turn lead to the redemption and fullness of all the nations; this will in turn lead to the
redemption and fullness of all of creation itself:
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the
creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the
creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children
of God. (Romans 8:19-21)
2. Paul understood, in the time of the writing of Romans, that the church was on her way to becoming predominantly
Gentile in its expression. This would not change, in his understanding, the nature of the root – which is Hebraic in nature;
or that the “firstfruits” were the Jews of the church of Jerusalem who were the beginning of the “reconciliation of the world”
to Christ that would culminate with “life from the dead”. God’s plan has always been to use a holy “Hebrew Tree” to bring
the nations of the earth into the fullness of their destiny in Christ:
I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to
jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. 12 Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches
for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! …. 15 For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the
world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy;
and if the root is holy, so are the branches. (Romans 11:11-16)
E. The greatest hindrance to God’s plan to establish Israel and Jerusalem as a praise in the earth has been Israel
herself. Israel’s greatest enemy has always been Israel. They have been, according to Paul, “committed to disobedience”.
Yet the stunning nature of God’s plan to fully redeem the earth is to take a nation in disobedience and use its disobedience
as the context to have mercy on all:
Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the
sake of the fathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For as you were once
disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31 even so these also have
now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God has
committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all. (Romans 11:28-32)
1. The realization of the stunning perfection – in kindness and justice – of God’s plan to establish Israel’s elected
purpose (to be the instrument through which He transforms the nations) through her disobedience is what brings Paul
to exult in the unfathomable wisdom and skill by which God formulates and orchestrates His plans:
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments
and His ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33)
II. SECOND SECTION – ISRAEL’S SUFFERING: THE REMNANT REFINED IN THE FIRE (ZECHARIAH 13:7-14:2)
A. In this second section of the burden against Israel, the focus of the oracle shifts to Israel’s suffering in the End-Times
(Zechariah 13:7-14:2). It is necessary in the wisdom of God to completely shatter their pride and independence from Him
and His ways. The extreme manner in which they have set themselves against Him requires extreme measures to show
them mercy. The gathering of the nations against her will shatter her on every level and leave her with no option but to
trust God. The depth of her sin is what demands this depth of refining / purifying.
B. The remnant of Israel will be refined through the fires of tribulation unto salvation (Zechariah 13:7-9)
7 "Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd (Jesus), against the Man who is My Companion," Says the LORD of
hosts. "Strike the Shepherd (Jesus), and the sheep will be scattered; then I will turn My hand against the
little ones. 8 And it shall come to pass in all the land," Says the LORD, "That two-thirds in it shall be cut off
and die, But one- third shall be left in it: 9 I will bring the one-third through the fire, will refine them as silver i
s refined, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'This
is My people'; And each one will say, 'The LORD is my God.” (Zechariah 13:7-9)
C. In the first section God established the context in which Israel would be brought into her repentance and salvation –
all the nations of the earth would gather against her and her power would be “completely shattered” (Daniel 12:7). The
Lord now reveals part of His method in terms of how He will bring great spiritual revival to Israel.
1. Daniel spoke of persecution and suffering as part of God’s End-Time plan to prepare His people to rule the earth
with Jesus in a manner that is worthy or reflective of His leadership style in meekness and humility / servant-heartedness
(Daniel 7:18-27). God forewarns Israel that her great victory will include a cross of her own – she will be despised,
rejected, and utterly humiliated before the nations just prior to her exaltation and establishment in the victory of the Lord.
D. The Father “awakened” His sword against His Son – the Shepherd and the Man who is “His Companion” (or “My
Equal”) at the cross. The Shepherd is God’s gift to Israel who will lead in an entirely different manner than the false
shepherds of chapter 11. Jesus will oversee the cleansing of End-Time Israel. He is qualified because He was deeply
acquainted with suffering for Israel.
1. No one will be able to say, “You don’t understand the suffering that You are allowing.” The sword of God’s judgment
that struck Jesus is the same sword that will strike End-Time Israel. Jesus was innocent and End-Time Israel is guilty. Jesus
understands what Israel will go through since He knows what it means to be struck by the Father’s sword. He is worthy, wise,
and thus able to lead them to salvation.
E. The striking of the Shepherd would lead to the scattering of Israel herself. In rejecting their Messiah / Shepherd, they
rejected the One who could gather them “as a hen gathers her chicks” (Matthew 23:37) – but “they were not willing” to be
gathered, and the result would be another scattering at the hands of the Roman armies in 70 AD.
F. The Lord will, in the coming days, “turn His hand” against the “little ones”. Some translations read the “shepherd
boys”. It is possible that this passage is alluding to the young leaders who will be among those who are raised up with
anointing to defend Israel in Zechariah 12:5-8. Micah 5:5 also talks about the raising up of young leaders to oppose the
Antichrist and his armies at the end of the age. God will “turn His hand” against them in the same manner in which He
struck His Shepherd to refine and prepare them for the task of leadership over the earth under their King.
G. God will turn His hand or sword of judgment against two-thirds of Israel who will be killed. While some see this as
fulfilled in 70 AD, the “one-third” that emerged from the Roman siege of Jerusalem did not give themselves fully to the Lord
with the depth of repentance described in Zechariah 12:10-14 nor with the wholeheartedness described in 13:9. 70 AD
may be different in another way – the Roman armies slaughtered the Jews in a local manner, while the issue of Israel’s
refining seems to be global in nature at the end of the age:
1. This seems to be similar to Ezekiel 5:12, which describes 1/3 of Israel dying by famine, 1/3 of Israel falling by the
sword, and 1/3 of Israel being scattered to the ends of the earth under great duress and trial as the anger of the Lord is
“spent” against them in their rebellion. It is possible that these two passages give us a picture of the global nature of
“Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7) in which the people who “survived the sword” find “grace in the wilderness”
(Jeremiah 31:2) where the Lord will “plead His case” with them:
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead My case with you face to face.
36 Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead My case
with you,” says the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 20:35-36)
Thus says the LORD: “The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness – Israel, when I
went to give him rest.” (Jeremiah 31:2)
2. Malachi 3:1-6 develops this same theme of Israel being refined like silver in the End-Times. Unrefined gold is full
of impurities. Gold is purified with very hot fire that causes the impurities to rise to the surface to be separated from the
remaining gold.
3. The culmination of this process will find that those who refuse to turn to God will be judged and “cut off” or cut out
of Israel; those who will say yes to God will be refined, tested, and emerge from their trial into a dynamic rest and salvation.
This will happen to all the nations as well – the “cancer” of sin and rebellion will be cut out of the earth until only those who
say yes to God remain. Those “who are left from the nations” (Zechariah 14:16) will be those who help Israel rebuild and
restore the ruins of the earth (Isaiah 61:4).
H. Jerusalem is temporarily taken and captives are deported (Zechariah 14:1-2).
1 Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, and your spoil will be divided in your midst. 2 For I will gather all the
nations to battle against Jerusalem; the city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half
of the city shall go into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
(Zechariah 14:1-2)
1. A “day is coming for the Lord”, as some translations render this verse. The high point of the drama is coming in
which God will bring the humiliation and shattering of Jerusalem to its climax. All that the Lord is looking to accomplish in
His final stroke of judgment is now in place – Israel is at her lowest point and completely shattered emotionally, physically,
and spiritually. The “day” that is coming for the Lord is described later in the passage as “one day” (14:7), which will be
the day that the Lord turns the tide in favor of Jerusalem – one day that will constitute the culmination of His plans in their
fullness to judge, humiliate, and refine the nations and establish Jerusalem. The Lord is the One who has gathered these
armies to the Valley of Jehoshaphat (Joel 3:2) and He is the One who has provoked them to gather for war (Joel 3:9-12)
to use them to judge Israel and then ultimately bring them into comprehensive judgment.
2. Here the Lord is “filling in the blanks” of what was spoken earlier in 12:2-3. Just prior to 12:4 (and the turning of
the tide) the nations who have gathered against Israel will finally succeed in taking the city militarily. Here we see that the
“shattering” of Israel’s pride goes beyond a hopeless scenario – but it seems as if the Deliverer is too late. The enemy has
won. This is the depth to which Israel will sink – their despair in that hour will be unimaginable. The defeated captives
must watch as the enemy soldiers right in front of their eyes are dividing their “spoil”: the personal possessions, goods,
and resources of the city that they need to live.
3. All the nations have come against Jerusalem. There is no hope for natural means of deliverance – there is not one
political or military ally to be found in that hour. Nations that may have been ambivalent to her dilemma during Antichrist’s
initial betrayal (Daniel 9:27) are now all fully against her, convinced of the need to “heave her away”. They are fully beaten
and defeated by this hostile enemy drunken with rage against her – fully exposed and at the mercy of those who desire to
show her no mercy.
4. Thus the houses are ransacked and the women are “ravished” or raped before being taken into captivity, along
with half of the population of the city. It is a chilling picture of the complete and total violation of the city by her enemies.
Only a small, weak, and desperate remnant remains within the city. This is a unique feature of the siege that is different
from those that have taken place in the past (Babylon in 586 BC and Rome in 70 AD) in which very few remained and most
were killed or taken into captivity. For some reason the invading armies, while able to achieve total victory over the city
are not able to achieve total victory over the people.
III. THIRD SECTION – ISRAEL’S VICTORY BY THE RETURN OF JESUS AS KING OF THE WORLD
(ZECHARIAH 14:3-21)
A. In this third section, we see Israel’s victory because her King comes to her (Zechariah 14:3-21). He shows us great
victory that begins in Israel will spread to the whole world (Zechariah 9:9-10). Zechariah will describe the conditions of the
day of the Lord related to Israel’s deliverance, from the details of her preservation to the supernatural display of God’s
power related to her salvation, restoration, and establishment as the premier city of the earth.
B. Jesus returns as the King of Israel to deliver her from her enemies (Zechariah 14:3-5):
3 Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. 4 In that day
His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives…the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making
a very large valley…5 Then you shall flee through My mountain valley…Yes, you shall flee as you fled from
the earthquake in the days of Uzziah…The LORD will come, and all the saints with You. (Zechariah 14:3-5)
1. At her lowest point with no resource or natural means to affect her own deliverance, the Lord Himself will go forth
and fight on Israel’s behalf. Many are not accustomed to thinking about Jesus in this manner – as the One who will not
fight “from a distance” from the heavenly realm, but as One who will literally engage in battle with the nations of the earth.
In Isaiah 63:1-6, the Lord Himself is seen striding towards Jerusalem "mighty to save" as all His robes are covered in
blood – which is the same passage that the apostle John is speaking of in Revelation 19:11-16. Jesus will go forth in
battle to rescue those that are His – the One who was struck for them will go forth and fight for them.
2. For the remnant trapped within the city itself, He will supernaturally make a way for them to escape the soldiers that
will move in to finish them off. Jesus will affect the most dramatic rescue in history to deliver His people from harm – He will
arrive at the Mount of Olives and split it in two. The mountain itself will part like the Red Sea so that the remnant can flee
through the valley Jesus creates. The only event that the audience of Zechariah can relate this cataclysmic event to is
the legendary earthquake of Uzziah’s day. Their escape will be a panicked one, possibly with elements of confusion and
disorder.
3. In Zephaniah 3:8 the Lord urged His people to wait for Him – and to believe that He would come for them. At the
point where the Israelites could hope in nothing and no one else to save them, God desires that they cling to hope in Him
to come and save them from utter destruction. Just beyond “too late” He will appear on the scene and make an impossible
way for them to escape – Zechariah emphatically declares that the Lord will come, and all of His “holy ones” will be with
Him at His coming.
C. Jesus’ Kingship is announced by miracles: unusual light and living water (Zechariah 14:6-8):
6 It shall come to pass in that day that there will be no light; the lights will diminish. 7 It shall be one
(unique) day which is known to the LORD-- neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen that
it will be light. 8 In that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, Half of them toward the
eastern sea (Dead Sea) and half of them toward the western sea (Mediterranean Sea); in both summer and
winter it shall occur. (Zechariah 14:6-8)
1. It seems as if, by this time, the sixth bowl of wrath (total darkness) has struck the Antichrist kingdom
(Revelation 16:10-11); and that the dark, gloomy conditions that Amos described may be in effect here as well
(Amos 5:18-20). Isaiah 13:9-10 describes the day of the Lord as a time in which the stars will not give their light, the
sun as darkened, and the moon greatly diminished. The light, as the end of the passage describes, that will break
through this veil of supernatural darkness will be the brightness of His coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8) with the armies of
heaven (Revelation 19:14) and the angelic host that follow Him, as Jesus Himself described (Matthew 24:27-31). In
the midst of the darkness of Israel’s despair and gloom, great light and hope will break in.
2. Micah promised that the supernatural wonders God performed in Egypt will happen again related to the deliverance
of Israel from the hands of the nations:
“As in the days when you came out of the land of Egypt, I will show them wonders.” 16 The nations shall see
and be ashamed of all their might; they shall put their hand over their mouth; their ears shall be deaf.
17 They shall lick the dust like a serpent; they shall crawl from their holes like snakes of the earth. They
shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of You. (Micah 7:15-16)
3. The nations shall be utterly humiliated in the manner in which God displays His incomparable power on behalf of
Israel – they will tremble before Him as the rest of the peoples are forever marked by the supernatural expression of His
might. This display of power will establish the authority and might of His kingdom over the nations of the earth. He will
shatter the nations like a clay pot with a rod of iron (Psalm 2:9; Revelation 19:15) – the repentance of those who are left
from the nations is knit to this frightening display of power and the horror of the winepress of the nations (Joel 3:13;
Revelation 14:17-20).
4. I believe that it is possible for this final catastrophic battle to take place in one day – it could be that the seventh
bowl of wrath in the book of Revelation is alluding to the Joshua passage that describes an elongated day
(Revelation 16:17-21; Joshua 10:11-14). It could be that there will be one unique day in which the Lord completely
delivers Israel and tramples the winepress of the nations that came against Jerusalem.
5. There will be in that time a supernatural establishment of actual, physical, “life-giving waters” that will flow from the
city. One of Israel’s continual problems is a minimal water resource, which leads to a constant flirtation with dangerous
drought conditions leaving them dependant on the yearly rains for resource. One of the features of their salvation is the
manner in which Jesus solves their problem: a water source will flow from Jerusalem right through the middle of their land.
6. The Dead Sea to the east will have life again and desert places will bloom and burst forth (Isaiah 35:1-10). There
will be no stoppage of the water flow, but it will be continual regardless of the season. Jesus Himself is the fountain of living
water (Jeremiah 2:13; 17:13; John 4:10) and Jesus will likewise cause living waters to burst out of their inner being
(John 7:38). The fullness of His plans involve spiritual and physical living waters bringing complete refreshing to the
people and the land itself. Waters will flow from the supernatural realm (the New Jerusalem and the throne of God –
Psalm 46:4; Revelation 22:1-2) to the natural realm (Ezekiel 47:1-12) and bring new life to the earth.
D. Jesus is exalted as King over all the nations (Zechariah 14:9):
9 And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be-- "The LORD is one," And His name
one. (Zechariah 14:9)
1. That which has been expressed in part will be fully realized in that day as a result of this battle: the times of the
restoration of all things will be at hand (Acts 3:21); or the time frame in which Jesus fully establishes His throne in
Jerusalem and is exalted as King over all the nations. He has “taken His great power and reigned” (Revelation 11:17)
by bringing fierce judgment to His enemies who opposed Him and “destroying those who destroy the earth”
(Revelation 11:18).
2. He is now free to move forward with those who remain on the earth after the wicked are removed – as there will
be a remnant that emerges from Israel, a remnant will emerge from the nations. All the peoples on the earth who remain
will enthrone Him as their King.
3. Like King David, Jesus will not forcibly demand the throne but will be given authority over the whole earth. The
men of Judah came to David at Hebron and anointed Him king over their house there (2 Samuel 2:4); it was not until some
time later that the rest of the leadership of Israel came to Hebron and made David king over all of Israel (2 Samuel 4:3).
Those who remain from the nations will come to Jerusalem and express their allegiance to Him there – they will recognize
Him as One God and King over all.
E. Jesus’ capital Jerusalem is leveled, exalted and safely inhabited (Zechariah 14:10-11):
10 All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba (northern Judah) to Rimmon south of Jerusalem
(southern Judah). Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place… 11 Jerusalem shall be safely
inhabited. (Zechariah 14:10-11)
1. There will be a leveling and utter cleansing of the city from its defilement that will extend for miles. Earlier Zechariah
spoke of a spiritual cleansing of the city from defilement with the opening of the fountain and the departure of false
prophets and the “evil spirit” from the land (13:1-2); here there is a depiction of a physical cleansing of the city as it is
remade into a city worthy of her King. It will be raised up as the preeminent city of the earth, prepared for the untold
numbers coming from the nations in the years to come to learn from Jesus there (Isaiah 2:2-3).
2. The vision of Zechariah 1:16 – 2:5 of expansiveness, prosperity, and safety inside the “wall of fire” will be fully
realized in that day. The City of Truth will be a glorious place for the inhabitants to dwell with their King as well as a
glorious place for the nations to flow to in their hunger to encounter Jesus (Zechariah 8:23) and learn from Him.
F. Jesus will punish all the nations that rebel against His leadership (Zechariah 14:12-15, 18, 19)
12 This shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem:
Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, and their
tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. 13…In that day that a great panic from the LORD will be among them.
Everyone will…rise his hand against his neighbor 14…the wealth of the surrounding nations shall be
gathered… (Zech.ariah14:12-14)
1. Zechariah examines again the nature of the victory of the Lord over the nations in the demonstration of His terrifying
power. The manner in which the final, ultimate victory will come is given in gruesome detail. The armies gathered against
Israel will be struck with a plague that will cause their flesh, eyes, and tongues to dissolve horribly. A great panic will grip
the soldiers of these armies.
2. This passage seems to be alluding to the events of 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 and the victory of Jehoshaphat over the
multitudes of nations that came against Judah in that time. The Lord through the prophetic song of the singers drove
these invading armies to madness as the Lord won the victory for them. In that battle, it took three days to gather the
spoils of their victory. Here, the wealth of the nations is gathered after the victory of Jesus – it will take seven years to
burn all of the weapons used by their enemies in this battle (Ezekiel 39:9) and seven months to cleanse the land of the
bodies (Ezekiel 39:12).
G. The Gentiles shall be converted and unified with Israel in worshipping Jesus (Zechariah 14:16-19).
16 Everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to
worship the King…and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 It shall be that whichever of the families of the
earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King…on them there will be no rain. 18…they shall
receive the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not keep the Feast of Tabernacles.
(Zechariah 14:16-19)
1. The surviving remnant from among the nations will all come to Jerusalem yearly to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
There will be a continual reminder of the goodness of the Lord in the manner He brought about their deliverance from the
“wilderness” of this age. The perfection of His leadership will be continually celebrated in a manner that will be designed
to keep their hearts knit to His. The whole earth will have a huge celebration feast every year under the direction of Jesus!
2. To seek to avoid this celebration is indicitive of an inward reality that must be swiftly and severely dealt with, because
of the implications of where such rebellion will lead – a joining with Satan after 1000 years to reject the perfect rule and
mercy of Jesus (Revelation 20:7-10).
H. Israel will be the first entire nation to walk holy in every area of their life (Zechariah 14:20-21).
In that day there is on bells of the horse, ‘Holy to Jehovah,’ And the pots in the house of Jehovah Have been
as bowls before the altar. 21 And every pot in Jerusalem, and in Judah, Have been holy to Jehovah of Hosts,
And all those sacrificing have come in, And have taken of them, and boiled in them, And there is no
merchant any more in the house of Jehovah of Hosts in that day! (Zechariah 14:20-21)
1. Every possession, both the “valued” and the “common”, of the Israelites in that day will be fully consecrated and
dedicated to the Lord. Nothing will be held back from Him and all will be dedicated to His service. The common, everyday
items of the household will be just as sacred and holy to the people as the bowls used to sprinkle the sacrificial blood on
the altar. The people will be fully given and dedicated to the Lord in every area – there will be a revelation of the Holiness
of God unlike any other time in Israel’s history.
2. The “compartmentalized” manner in which they would tend to separate their worship and sacrificial system from
everyday life will be done away with. The Holy Spirit will be allowed to permeate and invade every area – and this reality
will be outwardly celebrated and literally written on their valued possessions. Nothing they do will be apart from God.
3. There will be no more extravagant profits made from the worshippers of the Lord, as in the days of the Temple at
the first coming of Jesus. Then the money-changers and merchants profited greatly from the pilgrims from the diaspora
who looked to purchase an acceptable Passover lamb; in that day there will be no profiteering; but the His House will truly
and fully be a “House of Prayer” for all nations (Isaiah 56:7).
