VAIN REPETITION - when say because you think it is what you need to say
VANITY - to use His name for your own selfish purposes. Try to distort God’s Word to make everything that you don’t like
a sin, you are using God’s name in vain.
--Chaos - Isaiah 40:17/Genesis 1:2
VEHICLES of transportation - can represent vehicles of ministry (a car may mean local, a bus a congregation, airplanes
can be international)
VEIL - spiritual covering (SOS5:7)
--Removing the veil
1. A veil sovereignly placed over Israel’s eyes for a Divine purpose
2. It is promised that the veil will be removed
3. When Israel turns to the Lord out of her genuine need, the veil will be lifted
4. At the point of absolute obedience, the veil will lift
5. The humble gaze of faith and dependency opens the gate of one’s soul to see the glory of God
--Jewish historian Josephus tells how the veil which separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies was four inches
thick, and was so sturdy it could not be torn apart by horses tied to it, pulling in opposite directions.
--Veil from heart removed by mind being opened to the Scriptures (Luke 24:45). Christ’s way of working faith in the
soul is by opening the understanding. Thus He comes into the soul by the door.
• In the OT tabernacle there was a veil. The glory of God was behind a veil because if it was not it would have
consumed the nation of Israel. And the glory of God is behind a veil right now and the veil is the separation of the natural
and supernatural realm – that is a veil.
VERILY, VERILY - Jesus only said this when he prophesied
VICTORY - is to the over comers
VINE - frequently used in the Old Testament as symbol of Israel and in a way meaning they are lacking in some way
--areas of our life that impact our spiritual life flow (SOS 2:15)
--connected to the Lord
VINE-DRESSERS - companions (SOS 8:13)
VINEYARD - a picture of the Lord’s purpose; a budding vineyard = immature church; people of God; church worldwide; our
own souls (MH)
• The figure of a vineyard, to represent the rearing of souls for heaven, the culture required and provided for that
purpose, and the care and pains which God takes in that whole matter is everywhere in scripture
VIOLENCE - Jesus said that “The Kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force. What kind of violence
is He talking about? The violence of the Cross, conversion, taking up the cross daily, saying no to sin and yes to God --
that is painful.
In Studying Augustine he went through a struggle to give up sins in his life. He didn’t know if He would be able to
survive. His sins had become his life. The sin was whispering in his ear “you’ll never be able to do this again”, “You’ll
never be happy again.”. The violent, painful struggle to let go of sin and to say yes to God is the violence that is
required to enter the kingdom of God. This journey takes an intense spiritual commitment. It is totally dependent on
Grace but it involves painful purifications.
• Spiritual violence points to being willing to pay any price of self denial in seeking and obeying God. (MB)
VIOLENT - not automatic; not natural; resistance that is pressed through; spiritual violence (John the Baptist) radical
abandonment
VISIBLE - when devil shows up in visible, he’s losing in the invisible (JL)
VISION - divine revelation
#2377 - sight (mentally); a dream, revelation, or oracle
WITHOUT A VISION - Where there is no vision, the people perish (cast off restraint, unrestrained; out of control)-
Proverbs 29:18
-1 Samuel 3:1 the word of the Lord - revelation
-Amos 8:11, 12 hearing the words of the Lord
-Ezekiel 20:1-3 inquire of the Lord
-Daniel 10:9 heard the sound of His words
-Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision (revelation) awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false (It hastens
toward the goal). Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.)
M. Munroe says the light God created was knowledge. Ignorance is darkness. Light = revelation
--Spiritual vision is our capacity to see clearly what God wants to do with our lives in this world. But this spiritual insight
can be easily clouded by our thoughts and desires. Self-serving desires, interests, and goals block the vision. Serving
God is the best way to restore it.
VISION OF CHRIST by Hyde
1. Christ became a man - what condescension it was; cost of living in atmosphere of sin; took this place-became man -
FOR ME
2. Christ became a slave for me; bond-servant
3. Jesus became a dog for me; dog = Gentiles
He died for Gentiles - he had taken dog’s place

VISION OF THE BRIDEGROOM + Burden of the Bride == merge to a single concern for the immature
Spiritual responsibility:
--If she be a WALL -- We will build
If she be a DOOR -- We will enclose
VISIONS - are riddles and must not be understood in a literal sense
--God reveals His nature/Himself/His heart in visions; His plans/agendas in dreams
--In a vision can commune back with God
--Visions come only to God’s children
VISITATIONS - bring a responsibility that demand a response (BC)
• Punishment Hosea 9:7
VISITING – remembering – God remembers the sins of the fathers when about to punish the children. He distinguishes
between the moral responsibility which falls exclusively upon the sinful parents, and the natural consequences and
predisposition to sin, inherited by the descendants. He takes into account the evil environment and influence. He
therefore tempers justice with mercy; and He does so to the third and fourth generation. Deuteronomy 20:5
