He is not asking for service, but for sacrifice - RH
Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life for My sake, the same shall save it.
How much there is in us that still wants to live our own lives -- that shrinks from the sentence of death.
John 16:8  There is a work to be done in this world only He can do

     --utter despair of self (MG)
--Jesus taught new believers to count the cost before they make sacrifices.  Mature believers already know that they
do not give up anything comparable to what they first received.  They despise recognition for what others call “sacrifice”.
It was for the Son of God who gave Himself.
•        Genesis 15 – God’s covenants with man are made by sacrifice (Psalm 1:5), by Christ, the great sacrifice; no agreement
without atonement.  God’s acceptance of our spiritual sacrifices is an earnest of further favors.

SADDLE - placing of person in a ministry (horse = ministry)

SAID - God said = God willed

SAIL BOAT - dependent on the wind (wind of Holy Spirit); freedom to move about, go where Holy Spirit taking you

SALT - operates internally – in the mass with which it comes in contact
•        Salting the sacrifice – every acceptable sacrifice must be sprinkled with salt to express symbolically its soundness,
sweetness, wholesomeness, acceptability.  But it had to be roasted first, we have here the further idea of a salting with fie.
•        “Every disciple of Mine shall have a fiery trial to undergo, and everyone who would be found an odor of a sweet
smell, a sacrifice acceptable and well-pleasing to God, must have such a salting, like the Levitical sacrifices.”
•        See to it that you retain in yourselves those precious qualities that will make you a blessing to one another, and to
all around you.
•        The purpose of salt is to preserve things from corruption or prevent them from further deterioration.  In a sinful
society, family or school, many improper things have been stopped or kept from further decadence by salty Christians.
This is not done by your propaganda, but by your character

SALVATION - “When did you find the Lord?” is symptomatic of a church defiled with humanistic thinking!  The true question
should be, “When did the Lord call your name, and in what condition were you when he first gave you grace to believe?”
He is the one who elects us by His own choice, and Israel is the backdrop, the prototype,  and the ongoing historical proof
of God’s election.  (RD)

SAME MIND - arm yourself with same mind of Jesus - one purpose in mind:  do the will of the Father and nothing will stop Him

SEA =  world of nations and peoples, nations of the world
•        Seas and mighty waters speak of chaos and death – Isaiah 17:12 (NCBC)
•        Waters and seas often in scripture signify troubles and afflictions
•        The sea is the type of perpetual unrest.  Hence our Lord rebukes it as an unruly hostile troubler of His people.  It
symbolized the political tumults out of which “the beast” arose.
•        Throughout the Bible it symbolizes restless insubordination (Job 38:8-11; Psalm 89:9; Isaiah 57:20 and in
Revelation 13:1 it casts up the system which incarnates hostility to God and His people.  (Z)

SEALS - secret
     --Seven seals = complete secret

SECRET OF THE STAIRS - (WT)  The vertical level that we attain, as a result of the total of our lifetime decisions and
experiences, will become the horizontal level upon which we will move throughout eternity.  The “height” to which we have
attained will be determined by the         cumulative result of our choices, decisions, and attitudes toward the things of God
here in this life.  Each step brings us upward into a new level.  As we ascend to each new level, our revelation and
experience must be tested and proven.  As we are faithful in our times of testing,  our being “called” by the Lord will
be changed into being “chosen” by Him to become His Bride.          Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Progressive changes:
Response to His Presence enable changes
Obedience to His dealings enable changes
Secret revealed only to those who seek Him with a “single eye” and pray “draw me”
Willing obedience enables us to “run after Him”

Psalm 91:1 secret place of the Most High
Psalm 32:7  You are my hiding place
-mystery of the resurrection (SOS 2:14)
-SOS 4:1 behind the veil - our secret life in God (humility in keeping revelation secret)
•        He mentions not the north because the same word that signifies the north signifies the secret place, and from the secret
of God’s counsel it does come, or from the oracle in Zion, which lay on the north side of Jerusalem  Psalm 75:6

SECT – true Christianity aims at no worldly benefit or advantage, and therefore must by no means be called a sect.  Those
that espouse a sect aim at wealth and honor; but the professors of Christianity expose themselves thereby to the loss
of all that is dear to them in this world.

SEE GOD - absence of holiness reason for not seeing God (Hebrews 12:14)
--”see God” is a Hebraism which signifies “possess God, enjoy His felicity”, as seeing a thing was used among the Hebrews
for possessing it

SEED - witnessing in seed down

SEED-BEARING FRUIT – Genesis 1:29:  barley, what, vine, date, olive, fig, pomegranate

SEED OF THE WOMAN - Individually speaking, woman sinned first.  Representatively speaking, man represents sinners,
while woman represents mankind.  Had our Lord been the seed of man, He would automatically have become a sinner.
Yet being “the seed of the woman”, He is a man but not a sinful man.

SEEING - The pure in heart have but one aim:  to serve God and to please Him and also to live for others.  In this matter of
seeing, let us note that it is not governed by thought but by the heart.  It is based on our consecration and obedience, not
on our cleverness and comprehension ...  Please take note that it does not require an object as large as the earth to conceal
the moonlight; oftentimes a single leaf can hide the light of the moon.  So it is with the heart.  A slight slant of the heart will
cause spiritual blindness.  Seeing is not the result of         thinking through, it comes from having a pure heart.   Singleness
of heart is the test of absolute surrender.
All whose consecration is not absolute are blind, but the pure in heart can see.  Consecration is the sole condition for
seeing the truth, whereas the slightest reservation can produce a different view.  Man’s opinion follows his intention, not his brain.
Absolute surrender alone guarantees the ability to see.  (Nee)
•        Seeing and hearing are the learning senses – Matthew 20:30

SEEK - those things which are above (Colossians 3:1)
--seek Me early = respond promptly
•        We don’t seek the enemy.  We are seekers of God.  And as God comes to us, the enemy seeks us.  Because when
you walk with Jesus, you partake of all the warfare that He provokes.  God doesn’t need you to start a fight.  We are people
of His Presence and He is our Warrior King.  He loves a good fight.  And He tells us to fight a good fight.  And a good fight
is one where you don’t lose – otherwise its not a good fight.  A good fight is one that you win.  In His presence we possess
all the authority and all the resources to fight a good fight and not lose.  The real battle is not for cities and its not
territories.  The real battle is for intimacy.  You can only become fully intimate with Christ on the battlefield.

SEEN OF MEN - even means if you do something to be seen by yourself

SELF - “Mountains of Spices” p210 - an individual will is really a part of the Will and Consciousness of the Creator Himself, a
part which He has made free so that it knows itself to be distinct in some lovely and mysterious way from all other individual
wills, even from the Will of the Creator Who sent it forth.  But it is so shaped and fashioned that it yearns back instinctively
and with unquenchable longing for reunion with that from which it         came forth.  .... It is a ceaseless hunger and thirst
which, turn wherever it will for satisfaction, can find none till it         responds to the attracting pull of the Eternal Being or
Self from which it came forth.  A human spirit is indeed a  capacity to love and to respond to love and according to what it
chooses or wills to love so will its woe or blessedness be.

In the light of His purity, it was not so much sin we saw as SELF.  We saw pride and self-motives underlying everything
we had ever done.  Lust and self-pit were discovered in places where we had never suspected them. (RH)

--Jesus appeared to more than 500 after His resurrection and told them all to tarry (Luke 24:49) but only 120 were in
upper room.  Apparently, 380 decided to watch tv (K Copeland)
--Doulos = servants and handmaidens (male/female) - someone who has voluntarily subjected themselves to another
person’s will.  A bondslave who could be free if he wanted to be, but chooses instead to be wholly subservient to another
because of his love for that person

name
--God doesn’t decide if we are to be vessels of honor or not-- we do (2 Timothy 2:19-21). Purge yourself from  iniquity
and dishonor.  Its our responsibility to keep pure
--2 Timothy 2:3  endure hardships; equipped for victory

                     a.  They think they know what is best for them
                     b.  They need continual care
•        Sheep used as a term of plentiful or abundant; the Eastern sheep constantly bring forth twins (SOS 4:2) and
sometimes three and even four at a birth.  So their great fruitfulness is often alluded to in the Scripture.

SHEEP DOG = type of prophet

SHEEP’S CLOTHING – may denote moral conduct and pleasant temperament.  The devil’s most successful tactic is to mix
false teaching with good morals.  Such false prophets will emerge for the purpose of changing the men of the kingdom of
the heavens by changing the Lord’s demand on them.  Whatever lowers His demands and makes them easy are the
works of the false prophet.

SHEOL - used in the Old Testament to mean the grave, the place of the dead, generally thought to be under the earth.

     chosen by the will
       
manifested by physical responses and actions

     Three sins:
             Selfishness
 
Self conceit
 
Pride
 
Treacherous injuries

•        Downward spiral of sin:
o        Reject God
o        Make up their own ideas of what a god should be and do
o        Fall into sin
o        Grow to hate God and encourage others to do so

•        Israel’s principal sin:  bloodshed (social sin) as a result of idolatry (spiritual sin) (NCBC).  A problem in the vertical
relationship with God inevitably leads to some degree of injustice and injury in horizontal, human affairs.   (Ezekiel 22:1-5)

SIN - we sin because we enjoy the pleasure it brings.  We sin because it feels good.  We sin because it brings a thrill to our
bodies, fleeting satisfaction to our souls and excitement to the banality and boredom of our everyday lives.  “passing
pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25).  We sin because we believe the lie that the pleasure it brings, though passing, is more
satisfying than the pleasure obedience brings.  “Sin is what we do when our heart is not satisfied with God.”   The fight
against sin is the fight to stay satisfied with God.” (SS)
--When we think of sin, we always think of things like adultery or stealing and killing.  But those are just the effects of
sin.  Sin isn’t just an act; it’s also a decision of the heart.  When you know what you should do, but you go against what
you know is right in your heart.  That’s sin and it simply means missing the mark.

--Sin is in the spirit realm
•        The devil used the same method that he does still:  he questioned whether it was a sin or not; he denied that there
was any danger in it; he suggested much advantage by it.  His common topics:  the devil teaches men first to doubt and
then to deny; he makes them skeptics first, and so by degrees makes them atheists.  He (1) seeks to beget in them
discontent with their present state, (2) ambition of preferment as if they were fit to be gods.
•        A sickness of the soul
•        Matthew 9:2.  The word “sin” is cast in the plural and refers to man’s sinful deeds

•        Being wicked and evil within, every affection and passion depraved and out of order, he seeks for happiness where it
never can be found, in worldly honors and possessions, and in sensual gratifications, the end of which is disappointment,
affliction, vexation, and ruin.

SINS (Four primary-end of age) immorality, murder, sorcery, theft (Kill people and get their stuff)
--There are two sins which claim pre-eminence in hell:  hypocrisy and unbelief.  Therefore sinners are warned not to
have their ‘portion with the hypocrites’ (Matthew 24:51) or with “unbelievers” (Luke 12:46).  It seems that infernal mansions
are reserved principally for the sins of hypocrisy and unbelief and that all others are inferior prisoners.  But of the two
unbelief is the greater, for it is called “the damning sin” “He that believeth not is condemned already” (John 3:18).  The
unbelieving person carries his own warrant to jail; in a sense he is already imprisoned, for he wears the brand of a damned
person.

SOLOMON - In Song of Songs, most commentators have observed four breaks followed by four abrupt beginnings
(2:7; 3:5; 5:1;8:4) thus there result five parts, all alike ending in full repose and refreshment.  It was said that Solomon’s
songs were 1,005 (1 Kings 4;32).  the odd number five is likely that the “five” refers to the Song of songs consisting of five parts.
--Solomon more than likely wrote Song of Songs as his first love, in the kindness of his youthful espousals to Jehovah.
It was not written in his years of decline and backsliding.

praise and shouting contrary to the feelings of the burden of fruitlessness.    Embrace to enter the harvest of change. (TW)

SOUL --  The essence of who we are is made of events and how we responded to those events.  Who we are today is the
sum of what we have encountered in life and our subsequent reactions. Abuses and afflictions hammer us one way,
encouragement and praise inflate us another.  Our reaction to each event, whether that event was positive or negative,
is poured into the creative marrow of our individuality, where it is blended into the nature of our character. (see memory) (FF)
--SOS 7:10 - our soul realigned in our confession of “His desire is towards me”
--Soul:  understanding, conscience, and will (WG)
•        Source of emotions and personality – represents our conscious selves
•        Desire, my lust, my soul, which in Hebrew psychology is the seat of desire, here for vengeance and plunder.  Exodus 15:9
•        Life – Matthew 16:26 per AC
•        Understanding, will, active power
•        Inner soul:  imagination, reason, the faculty of speech, and the creative powers
•        For Hebrew thought, the heart is the centre of human being, including understanding and will as well as emotions.
Soul is the principle of being, the source of life and strength.  (Z)

SOUL – GOD’S – Judges 10:16 (His soul)

SOUL POWER:
     --intimidating someone
     --playing mind games
     --manipulating others
     --deliberately making someone cry
     --staring someone down
--wanting to control and overrun others lives

SOUTH SIDE – right side

SOUTH WIND = edification, blessing; abiding anointing

SPEECH – thought and speech are God’s gifts to creatures made in His image (AWT)

--highest part of man which qualifies him to lay hold of incomprehensible,  invisible, eternal things
--How to send spirit first?  By not trying.
Jesus fell asleep in storm.  Who started the storm?  He did.  While sleeping, His Spirit went ahead and demons
stirred up and storm occurred.
Jesus was asleep to the storm and awake to The Father.
When Jesus speaks to the storm they are immediately on the other side.  They take a quantum leap.
His Spirit went into the future and pulled them all by faith to where they were supposed to be anyway
Demons cried out “Have you come to torment us...”  Jesus asks them their name and they say “My name is
legion for we are...”  The one is in the many and the man in one.  Even demons know it.
When you are joined to the Lord:  the One is in the many and the many in One.
My name is Mrs. Jesus Christ.  I’ve got the checkbook.
Be dressed and ready:  constantly available; allow your spirit to be available; you will feel things long before you
see them
Wake my senses, my heart, to the voice of My beloved.

                                              !!
--spirit goes before us:     \\            //
                                          person
                                       //          \\
                                              !!

consciousness (AWT)

SPIRIT MAN - linked to your vocal chords (what inside comes out; speaking in tongues)

SPIRIT OF PROPHECY - to bear witness concerning Jesus

SPIRIT OF ‘SUPERIOR KNOWLEDGE’ - “If only we could make the Master see it and do it our way!”.  Like servants who
have taken over their master’s house, until they wind up complaining and incensed with him because they think they know
how to handle his business best, and they speak impatiently about him as if he is just a silly buffoon.  It is an insidious
desire to desire to be master of your own soul.

SPIRITUAL - we are spiritual beings having a temporary human experience
•        Joshua’s hands were not heavy in fighting, but Moses hands got heavy in prayer.  The more spiritual any service is the
more apt we are to fail and flag in it.  Exodus 17:11

SPIRITUAL ADULTERY - occurs whenever, in the course of sharing, we grant to another than our spouse that position of
comfort and refreshment which belongs first and sometimes only to him or her.    To share with someone else what ought
to have been shared first or only with their own spouses.

SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY:
--The measure of spiritual authority we have determines the domain of responsibility and influence that God can entrust
to us.
--Unlike many things, spiritual authority cannot be purchased or obtained in a variety of ways
--Spiritual authority grows within the person who faithfully confronts every difficult situation that arises in their realm of
responsibility.
--David was given opportunities to either confront the attackers or observe slaughter.  In each case, David overrode
personal safety in favor of taking on the hard issues, delivering his sheep from the jaws of death.
--If the difficult things that arise within our spheres of responsibility are not dealt with, they will eventually replace us as
the one in charge.
--Many who are called to lead thousands will never grow beyond minimal stewardship because they are either afraid to
confront or are unwilling to risk the possibility of offense
--God’s watchful gaze is still upon the actions of people caring for things they do not own personally
--Though the hard things we confront on a daily basis do not come in overt packages like a lion or bear, they will often
come through people who are in our sphere of responsibility that the enemy is trying to kill,  steal, and destroy.  Not evil people,
but people that god loves enough to place them in our lives so we  can help them.  People who may have immoral, divisive,
manipulative, jealous, or self-promoting issues that need to be confronted -- issues detrimental to them personally and
dangerous for those around them
--We attack the enemy by risking relationships to do the right thing....Jesus helped those under His care by confronting
them when evil in their hearts surfaced through their words and actions.
--Through David’s willingness to confront, authority grew in him that he would need for future battles
--Through Jesus’ selfless action to confront evil, all authority in heaven and earth was given to Him  (Matt Peterson -
MSM Vol. 12 #4)

SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES - those from the devil - even though the soul does not desire them - cause the spirit agitation,
dryness, vanity, or presumption

SPIRITUAL GROWTH - when see your reactions to other people and to uncomfortable circumstances, you change.  You will
be more concerned about getting on with important things instead of going into meltdown over less important things.
•        Indicators of spiritual growth:
    o        Patience                Impatience
    o        Humility and love        Pride

SPIRITUAL LAW – you become what you behold

SPIRITUAL SWEET TOOTH - John says that some are content with a certain degree of virtue, perseverance in prayer, and
self denial but never achieve the nakedness, poverty, selflessness, or spiritual purity about which the Lord counsels us
here.  For they still feed and clothe their natural self with spiritual feelings and consolations instead of divesting and
denying themselves of these for God’s sake and this is an indication of a spiritual sweet tooth.

SPRINGS - different ways that our hearts are impacted and influenced by the Holy Spirit; a spring is below ground; an inward
source of supply

ST AUGUSTINE – “On his deathbed, surrounded by his closet friends, as Augustine slipped away to be with the Lord, his
breath ceased, his heart stopped, and a wonderful sense of peace filled the room.  Suddenly his eyes reopened, and with
his face aglow he declared to those present, “I have seen the Lord.  All I have written is but straw!.  Then he left for his
eternal home.”  (JB)

STABILITY - wall (see wall)

STAIRS = ascent from level to a higher one or the processes He places in our path

STAIRWAYS - transitions; going up = higher levels.  Going down = lower levels

STANDARD – to raise a standard is to declare a message

STANDING off to side - someone not involved means they should be involved; spiritual apathy; something wrong; lazy, hurt
     --Ready for action

STARS - does not have light of itself, reflects; light used for navigation; pastors
     --brothers - Genesis 37:10
•        Abram’s spiritual seed are like stars (his fleshly seed like the dust of the earth)
•        Symbolize lordship (Numbers 24:17; Daniel 12:3; Jude 13)
•        Faithful, righteous Israelites (MB)

STARS OF HEAVEN = Hebrew poets, to express happiness, prosperity,  the advancement of states, kingdoms, and potentates,
make use of images taken from the most striking parts of nature, from the heavenly bodies, from the sun, moon, and stars,
-- which they describe as shining with increased splendor, and never setting.  On the contrary, the destruction of
kingdoms is represented by opposite images.  The stars are obscured, the moon withdraws her light, and the sun shines
no more!  The earth quakes, and the heavens tremble; and all things seem tending to their original chaos.  (Isaiah 13:10)
= priests and Levites (Daniel 8:10; Matthew 24:29)
     - angels (morning stars sang)

STATURE - spiritual maturity (SOS 7:7)

STEALING – sins against men  Zechariah 5:3

STEP:
     --floor of next step
        is the ceiling of now

              Storm
                Now

     --door opens suddenly
--take step of faith.  Jesus goes to sleep so you’ll have to see what you can do.
--2 Kings 7:1  walk towards what you fear

STEP OUT - Mark 4;35

STIFF-NECKED - We become "stiff-necked" when we insist upon our own plans and agendas and fail to embrace His (BJ)

STONE – Christ

STONING – The place of stoning was twice as high as a man.  While standing on this, one of the witnesses struck the culprit
on the loins, so that he fell over this scaffold; if he died by the stroke and fall, well; if not, the other witness threw a stone
upon his heart, and dispatched him.  The stone thrown on the culprit was, in some cases, as much as two men could lift up.

STORM - when Jesus rebuked the storm, He didn’t say “peace be still”.  He said “get muzzled” as if you were talking to a
naughty puppy

STORMS - tornados, winds; have to know if white or black - good or evil

STRAIGHT WAY – the fundamental law of admission into Christ’s school; to deny yourself.  It is both the “strait” gate, and
the “narrow” way.  Matthew 16:24

STREAMS - an outward flow which is available to all; a stream is above ground

STREETS - going down, tradition, power in tradition

STRENGTH - with all our physical time
--the right knowledge of God is the strength of the soul and in that strength can do great exploits.

STRIFE - wanting your own way and willing to fight over it

STRONG MEN – devils – SOS – they strive mightily to entrap her on the road and also because their temptations are
stronger and their wiles more baffling than those of the world and the flesh, because the devils reinforce themselves with
these other two enemies, the world and the flesh, in order to wage a rugged war.  (JoC)

STRONGHOLD - a collection of thoughts that are in agreement with the devil and not in agreement with God.
--destroy them by agreeing with how God thinks and feels about us

STRUGGLE - What is the struggle?  The struggle is to manage our needs.

STUBBORN – hard of heart (Exodus 4:21) – the repetition of Pharaoh’s persistent obstinacy made it less likely that he
would eventually listen to the word of God.  For such is the law of conscience:  every time the voice of conscience is
disobeyed, it becomes duller and feebler, and the heart grows harder.  Man cannot remain neutral in the presence of Duty
or of any direct command of God.

STUMBLING BLOCKS - think doing God a favor when attacking His own children.  The worst judgment is that of judgment of
stumbling blocks (RJ)
•        Substitutes for God in the life and affections of a person

SUBJECTIVITY – Matthew 11:20 – Jews wouldn’t believe Jewish because of their subjective prejudice.  They cannot be moved
by anybody.  “They repented not”.  Because of their subjectivity they will not accept or repent.  Whether men believe or
not is not determined by how many problems they have.  It is governed by subjectivity and hardness of heart. (Nee)

SUBMISSION - The children of God most exercised in deep submission, will commonly be found to be the most specific
in their requests, both for the greatest things and for the least.  Hosea 5:15 .  Confess sin, seek His face, rest not till you find Him

SUCCESS - 3 Keys to Success:  (Oral Roberts/Ken Copeland)
     1.  Find our the will of God
     2.  Confer no more with flesh and blood
     3.  Get your job done at any cost

     Principle of success:
             A.  Key:  take on yourself the form of a servant and be obedient (and be subject to human authorities)
             B.  Matthew 7:21-22 “...but he who does the will of My Father in heaven”
                     1.  Heaven is in harmony because sin is abolished and all are obedient to the will of God
                     2.  “Many will say to Me in that day (the day people are entering into heaven), have we not prophesied in Your
name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in Your name (anointed people) .... I never knew you, depart from Me”
             C.  He speaks and expects us to do His will
                     1.  Lawlessness is disobedience
                     2.  If obedience is the issue, I must re-examine myself

“SUCH AS I HAVE” - Acts 3:6
     6/22/94 - What I do have
but what I have I give you
but what I do have, I give to you
But I’ll give you something else
“In the name of Jesus” means “by the authority of Jesus”
through Holy Spirit’s power, not their own
but what I have I will certainly give you
but I will give you what I have
faith in His name; authority at one’s disposal
3:16 basis of faith in His name
#5225 - have = to be in existence, to be ready, at hand

                             have = to hold or maintain as a possession, privilege, or entitlement; to hold in one’s use or at one’s disposal;

SUDDENLY - Lulled into thinking “some day” instead of suddenly
-Mark 4:15 immediately satan comes to steal word, but devil not as fast as God’s immediate
     -Psalm 6:10  enemies suddenly ashamed
-Acts 2  suddenly as a mighty, rushing wind

SUFFER - allows
--almost every soul who suffers will find himself seeking too much comfort (MG)

SUFFERING - For the joy set before Him
--The great delight of suffering in doing the will of God
--At cross could see end of His trials.  And saw everything and was continually witnessing the great offenses which were
being committed against His Father.
--but part of my work is to suffer for you; and I am glad, for I am helping to finish up the remainder of Christ’s
sufferings for His body, the Church         (Colossians 1:24)
--my lifeblood poured out....if I am to die for you (Philippians 2:17)
--to find out what it means to suffer and die with Him (Philippians 3:10)
--you will be ready to suffer with me for the Lord (2 Timothy 1:8)
--in my own body I am making up whatever is still lacking and  remains to be completed of Christ’s afflictions for the sake of
His body, the Church        (Colossians 1:24)
--share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory (Romans 8:17)
     --suffer = permit, undergo pain

     --Why suffer?:
--become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God Hebrews 2:17)
--because He suffered when tempted, able to help those being tempted (Hebrews 2:18)
--learned obedience from what He suffered/source of salvation (Hebrews         5:8)
--A state of suffering disposing persons to be compassionate, and those who endure most affliction are they who feel
most for others (AC)
--Learn from experience what is like to obey
                     
                 Obey when it means suffering
                     
?Prove meaning of obedience thorugh suffering - chose to endure
                     
With loud cries, agony of tears, silence
                     
?   Death:  disarms principalities and powers
                     
Triumph, completed experience, maturity; corruptible puts on incorruption; mortal puts on immortality

--Suffering means that somewhere there is a disorder (Tozer)
--Power of resurrection gives us the ability to handle anointing and prepares us for suffering
--voluntary suffering of men for the Lord a wonder in heaven (RJ)
--John 18:11 - sufferings are gifts given
--Isaiah 53 is the worst case of division - the Song of the Suffering Servant of God.  The first verse of the song is in Chapter
52 and so it is never read with the rest of the song.
--the sufferings of this person had been sanctified to him, so that his heart was open to receive help from the hand of the
Lord.  Luke 23:40
•        Principle that he who is able to suffer most for His sake will be the nearest to Him in His kingdom (Mark 10:38)
•        To suffer for christ is to drink of a cup and to be baptised with a baptism
•        It is a bitter cup, those waters of a full cup – Psalm 73:10
•        And a baptism, a washing of the waters of affliction.  Some are dipped in them, others have but a sprinkling of them; both are
overwhelmed in them, as in a deluge, others ill wet as in a sharp shower.
•        It is but a cup and has a bottom; it is but a baptism where dipped – not drowned
•        What makes suffering suffering is the complete absence of hope, humanly speaking.  God chastens those he intends to
use in an unusual way by bringing  them right to the edge of despair.   This way they can never question the explanation
for their deliverance when it comes.  (R T Kendall)
•        This is the suffering we inherited from our Lord and Savior:  resisting temptation by standing on God’s revealed will
instead of on what our senses are demanding.
•        You suffer when you do what it takes to resist the symptom in your body that is demanding your attention.  You
suffer when you take a stand in faith regardless of what your relatives and friends say.  And you suffer when you choose
to believe the Word instead of what the world thinks.

SUFFERINGS OF CHRIST:
•        Hebrews 2:16-18 Jesus’ suffering was temptation
•        Romans 8:14-28 “...Is so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.  For I reckon that the
sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us
•        Two ways Jesus suffered:
             1.  Made perfect through sufferings - Hebrews 2:9-10 - refers to Jesus suffering death so we could live.  This
suffering He endured in His body is not something we can share with him, but a suffering He endured so we would not have
to endure it.
             2.  Suffered being tempted - Hebrews 2;16-18
--His suffering was that he resisted the pressure and the temptation to sin and break fellowship with God.
Jesus resisted by standing in faith on God’s Word and choosing to speak and do only what He heard and saw His Father say
and do.
--The supreme challenge for Jesus came in the Garden of Gethsemane as He prepared to face His death.
There, He was tempted to be out of the will of God.  God willed one thing, and Jesus another.  This suffering was so
severe that he sweated great drops of blood.
--This is the suffering we inherited from our Lord and Savior:  resisting temptation by standing on God’s revealed will
instead of on what our senses are demanding.
--You suffer when you do what it takes to resist the symptom in your body that is demanding your attention. You suffer
when you take a stand in faith regardless of what your relatives and friends say.  And you suffer when you choose to
believe the Word instead of what the world thinks.
•        Two ways Jesus suffered:
o        Made perfect through sufferings – Hebrews 2:9-10 – refers to Jesus suffering death so we could live.  This
suffering He endured in His body is not something we can share with Him, but a suffering He endured so we would not have
to endure it.
o        Suffered being tempted – Hebrews 2:16-18
        His suffering was that He resisted the pressure and the temptation to sin and break fellowship with God.  Jesus
resisted by standing in faith on God’s Word and choosing to speak and do only what He heard and saw His Father say
and do.
        The supreme challenge for Jesus came in the Garden of Gethsemane as He prepared to face His death.  There,
He was tempted to be out of the will of God.  God willed one thing, and Jesus another.  This suffering was so severe that
he sweated great drops of blood.
•        When Jesus was rejected and suffered greatly, He praised the Father, for He accepted the discipline, ordering and
pleasure of God.  He is meek, having no resistance.  He is lowly, not expecting better treatment.  His heart is truly meek
and lowly.  Consequently, He was able to praise the Father even though He encountered so much difficulty.  Matthew 11:28

SUMMER FRUIT:
•        Summer fruit signifies the hastening on of the ruin threatened
•        Gathered and ready to be eaten
•        They were ripe for destruction, they lay ready to be eaten up
•        The year of God’s patience was drawing toward a conclusion; it was autumn with them
•        They will not keep until winter and must be used immediately – an emblem of this people, that had nothing consistent
in them

SUN - father - Genesis 37:10

SUPERNATURAL REALM – the material physical realm – the earth is the place where we have human emotions and we
have physical sensations – undoubtedly they will be better and perfectly pure in the resurrected body in the new earth –
but there will be an emotional and physical dimension that you don’t have in the spirit.  That is why demons want to inhabit
bodies because they feel so much more in the physical realm.
•        In the OT tabernacle there was a veil.  The glory of God was behind a veil because if it was not it would have
consumed the nation of Israel.  And the glory of God is behind a veil right now and the veil is the separation of the natural
and supernatural realm – that is a veil.

SUPPING = intimate, personal exchange

SURRENDERED LIFE - There is all the difference in the world between YOUR surrendered life in My hands, and Me living
My life in your body. (RH)

SWEARING - Not swearing actually reduces the issue to honesty in conduct, not honesty in character.  You swear
because your word is not trustworthy without accompanying it with an oath.  Jesus is saying that an oath is not good
enough.  Matthew 5:33.  The act of swearing suggest the presence of lying.
•        Sins against God  Zechariah 5:3

SWEAT - our own works and efforts

SWELLING – well represents the pride and haughtiness of insolent foes

SWIMMING - immerse in Holy Spirit (especially if pool is clear)

SWIMSUIT - skimpy Speedo suit in front of people = Lord telling you that you are going to jump into the thing He has with speed

SWINE – the impure or coarse, who are incapable of appreciating the priceless jewels of Christianity
•        Those who hate reporofs  Matthew 7:6
•        Dogs and swine stand as definite types in the scriptures.  According to Leviticus 11, both are unclean animals.  A dog
is totally unclean, both within and without.  A swine is unclean inside but clean outside, for it “parteth the hoof, and is
clovenfooted, but cheweth not the cude” (Leviticus 11:7).  Dogs therefore typify the perishing; while swine typify the
hypocrites or nominal Christians.  Today if you cast the holy things to the dogs, they are unable to discern that these are
holy.  Hence, not being satisfied, and even being displeased, they will turn and rend you.  And if you cast your pearls
before the swine, they do not realize the preciousness of these objects; they will therefore trample them under their feet

Sword of my mouth – the self-fulfilling word of divine judgment (Z)

SWORDS - word of God; ability to fight a spriitual battle; Divine judgment (Isaiah 49:2, Hebrews 4:12)
--cuts both ways - reward and judgment
--The Roman soldier had two kinds of swords.  One was the long, thin sword that we know today that you can fight two or
three soldiers with at most.  But the broad sword of the Roman soldier was a far more deadly weapon.  It was shaped
like a spade with a ridge up the middle which extended beyond the blade to the handle and you held it with both hands
and it was very heavy and you swung it.  It was sharp as razor on both sides and if you were near that broad sword it
would slice an arm or leg.  One soldier swinging that in a circle could keep fifty other soldiers away.  They wouldn’t come
within reach of the blade.  In Hebrews it says that the word of God is like a two-edge sword, cutting through to the marrow
of the bone.  It is a vivid picture.  And Jesus had that in His mouth.  And with the sword Jesus will slaughter this entire
army with a word.  he did use that word only once when He was on planet earth:  when He came to a fig tree and found
no figs and He was hungry.  He cursed the tree.

SYMBOLS - point to realities

SYMBOLS OF THE GODHEAD –a smoking furnace and a flaming torch – Genesis 15:17
