God’s Desire to Find a Resting Place on Earth

I.        DAVID’S RESOLVE TO SEE GOD’S MANIFEST PRESENCE RELEASED ON EARTH

A.        David had a resolve to find a resting place for God and thus made a vow to live with this in view. God will reveal His
desire to manifest His presence on earth to those with a heart like David.

1 LORD, remember David and all his afflictions; 2 How he swore to the LORD, and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 "Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, or go up to the comfort of my bed; 4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids, 5 until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob"…8 Arise,
O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. (Ps. 132:1-8)

B.        God remembers or establishes a memorial for those who seek to find Him a dwelling place.

2 A devout man…who gave alms generously…and prayed to God always. 3 He saw clearly in a vision an angel…saying,
"Cornelius!" 4 He was afraid, and said, "What is it, lord?" He said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have come up for
a memorial before God.” (Acts 10:2-4)

3 A woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. She broke the flask and poured it on His head…
6 Jesus said, "She has done a good work for Me. 9 Wherever this gospel is preached…what this woman has done will
be told as a memorial to her.” (Mk. 14:3-9)

C.        David’s life vow to find God a dwelling place was not recorded in Scripture. It was well known to those who knew
David. In Ps. 27:4 and Ps. 69:7-12, David records the essence of this vow.

4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to
behold the beauty of the LORD… (Ps. 27:4)

9 Because zeal for Your House has eaten me up, and the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.
10 When I wept and chastened my soul with fasting, that became my reproach. 11 I became a byword…Those who sit
in the gate speak against me… (Ps. 69:9-12)

D.        David established 4,000 full-time paid musicians and 288 paid prophetic singers (1 Chr. 23:5; 25:7). He
established worshippers before the ark of the covenant which spoke of God’s Throne.

15 David and all…Israel brought up the ark of the LORD (to Jerusalem)… (2 Sam. 6:15)

14 I (David) have taken much trouble to prepare for the house of the LORD 100,000 talents of gold…19 Set your
(Solomon) heart…to seek the LORD. Arise and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the
covenant of the LORD..." (1 Chr. 22:14-19)

2 For the house of my God I have prepared with all my might…3 For I have set my affection on the house of my
God, I have given…of my own special treasure of gold… (1 Chr. 29:2-3)

E.        God told Solomon that his father did well in seeking to build the house of prayer.

8 The LORD said to my (Solomon) father David, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well in
that it was in your heart.” (2 Chr. 6:8)

II.        GOD’S RESTING PLACE

A.        David’s life work was to establish a resting place for God in his generation. God rests in us when He finds His
home in people on earth who live in deep unity with His heart. God rests in the midst of His people when all resistance
toward Him is gone among those who are poor in spirit.

1 Where is the place of My rest? 2…On this one will I look: on him who is poor (poor in spirit) and of a contrite spirit,
and who trembles at My word. (Isa. 66:1-2)

B.        God describes Himself as resting in the midst of His people when all resistance toward Him is gone. God strives
with His people who live in compromise and resist His leadership.

3 The LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever...” (Gen. 6:3)

C.        God can “rest” in His redeemed partially in this age. God’s resting place for the Holy Spirit in this age is a
geographic place where an open heaven exists resulting in profound divine blessing. He allows this to happen whenever
He finds a people in a geographic location who corporately live in pursuit of 100-fold obedience as seen in Jerusalem
(Acts 1-6).

D.        God promised to establish intercessors who will never be silent until He releases His presence.

6 I have set watchmen on your walls…they shall never hold their peace (be silent, NAS) day or night…7 give Him no rest till He
establishes…Jerusalem a praise in the earth. (Isa. 62:6-7)

E.        The End-Time Church will be in deep unity with the Holy Spirit in saying and doing what the Spirit is saying and doing.
What is the Spirit doing? He is interceding for Jesus to come. What is the Spirit saying? He is revealing the Church’s
bridal identity (who we are as Jesus’ Bride).

17 And the Spirit and the Bride say, "Come!" (Rev. 22:17)

F.        The priests of Zadok were faithful in keeping the charge of the sanctuary. Therefore, God promised to bless
their entire family line in the age to come. How much more will God reward the individual priest of Zadok who actually
kept the charge of the sanctuary by their faithful diligent labors in it in their day.

8 You have not kept charge of My holy things, but you have set others to keep charge of My sanctuary for you...
15 "The priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went
astray from Me, they shall come near Me to minister to Me...," says the Lord. 16 They shall enter My sanctuary, and
shall come near My table to minister to Me, and they shall keep My charge (in Millennial Kingdom)...23 They shall
teach My people the difference between the holy and the unholy…28 It shall be, in regard to their inheritance, that
I am their inheritance…for I am their possession. (Ezek. 44:8-28)

G.        David commanded that the singers and the support team keep the charge of God.

45 Both the singers and the gatekeepers kept the charge of their God…according to the command of David and Solomon.
46 For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chiefs of the singers…47 In the days of Zerubbabel
and in the days of Nehemiah all Israel gave the portions for the singers…a portion for each day. (Neh. 12:45-47)
