The End-Time War on the Spirit of Jezebel
I. INTRODUCTION
A. There are two different women in the Bible named Jezebel. We gain great prophetic insight into the End-Time drama by
understanding the conflict between the OT Jezebel and Elijah (approx. 850 BC; 1 Kg. 16-21; 2 Kgs. 9) and the nature of the
NT Jezebel’s seduction of the church in Thyatira (approx. 90 AD; Rev. 2:18-29).
20 I have a few things against you, because you allow (tolerate) that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess,
to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. (Rev. 2:20)
B. The spiritual principles seen in both passages will be fully manifest in the End-Times.
II. THE OT JEZEBEL AND HER CONFLICT WITH ELIJAH
A. Jezebel was a queen of Israel and a witch or priestess of the Baal and Asherah (Phoenician gods) who seduced
Israel and Judah into immorality, idolatry and witchcraft.
B. She was raised in Sidon, a prosperous commercial city on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. As a foreign
princess, her father Ethbaal, king of Sidon (in Tyre) gave her in marriage to Ahab to create an alliance with Sidon
and Israel. The first mention of Jezebel is in context to her marriage in about 870 BC. As the new queen of Israel
(northern ten tribes), she moved to Jezreel and turned the capital city to a center of worship of Baal.
31 He (Ahab)…took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped
him. (1 Kgs. 16:31-32)
C. Ahab and Jezebel named their three children after the Lord (Ahaziah, Jehoram, Athaliah). Ahab even consulted
the prophets of Israel (1 Kings 22:6) yet was in favor of religious toleration. Their daughter Athaliah married Judah’s
King Jehoram, (Jehoshaphat’s son). She had the same spirit of wickedness as her mother (2 Kgs 11). Thus Jezebel
also seduced Judah with her evil.
D. With her bold and strong influential personality she “successfully” promoted immorality and sorcery throughout
the nation of Israel as she murdered and stole from God’s people. She seduced her husband King Ahab to do great
wickedness and to make laws to support it.
25 But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the LORD, because Jezebel his wife
stirred him up. (1 Kgs. 21:25)
E. In marrying King Ahab, using the powers of the state, she immediately established Phoenician idol worship on a
grand scale in the king’s court in Jezreel. She financed 450 prophets of Baal and 400 of Asherah with state money.
The Antichrist will finance his worship moment (Rev. 13).
19 450 prophets of Baal, and 400 prophets of Asherah…eat at Jezebel's table. (1 Kgs. 18:19)
F. Jezebel murdered and hunted down God’s prophets who opposed her. Some End-Time saints will lose their life even
as John the Baptist did for confronting the spirit of Jezebel.
7 You shall strike down the house of Ahab…that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of
all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel. (2 Kgs. 9:7)
4 While Jezebel massacred the prophets of the LORD, Obadiah had taken 100 prophets and hidden them, fifty to a cave,
and had fed them with bread and water….10 There is no nation…where (Ahab) has not sent someone to hunt for you
(Elijah)… (1 Kgs. 18:4, 10)
G. King Ahab spoke of Elijah as the one who troubled Israel. Elijah put the responsibility on him.
17 It happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "Is that you, O troubler of Israel?" 18 And he answered,
"I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father's house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the
LORD…” (1 Kgs. 18:17-18)
H. Elijah called for a showdown between the “prayer movement” of Baal’s prophets and the Lord.
19 Gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the 450 prophets of Baal, and the 400 prophets of Asherah…21 Elijah came to
all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow
him." …22 Elijah said to the people…23 Let them give us two bulls… 24 You call on the name of your gods, and I will call
on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, He is God."…26 So they took the bull which was given
them…called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, "O Baal, hear us!"…28 So they cried aloud, and
cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives…29 When midday was past, they prophesied until…the evening
sacrifice. But there was no voice; no one answered…36 Elijah…said, Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may
know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." 38 Then the fire of the
LORD fell…39 When all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, He is God!" 40 Elijah
said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let one of them escape!" So they seized them; and Elijah brought them
down to the Brook Kishon and executed them there. (1 Kgs. 18:19-40)
I. After Elijah killed Jezebel’s prophets at Mt. Carmel, she swore an oath to her gods (demons) to kill Elijah. He was
intimidated by this and ran for his life to Beersheba of Judah (1 Kgs. 19:1-3).
1 Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel
sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of
one of them by tomorrow…" 3 When he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba... (1 Kgs. 19:1-3)
J. Jezebel’s theft is seen when Naboth refused to sell his vineyard to Ahab. Jezebel murdered him to take his
property (1 Kgs. 21:1-16). She wrote a letter to the elders of Jezreel bribing them to have Naboth killed for blasphemy
against God. She provided the initiative to do this evil.
17 The word of the LORD came to Elijah…19 saying, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Have you (Ahab) murdered and also taken
possession?…21 I will bring calamity on you. I will... cut off from Ahab every male in Israel…” 23 the dogs shall eat
Jezebel… (1 Kgs. 21:17-23)
K. Jezebel lived 14 years after Ahab’s death as the queen-mother and continued to rule in Israel through her two
sons (King Ahaziah and King Joram) and to promote evil through her daughter who was married to the King Jehoram
of Judah (2 Chron 21:6).
L. Elijah prophesied that Ahab and Jezebel’s children would be killed by God’s judgment (1 Kgs. 21:20-22). In one
day, Jehu killed Jezebel and her two sons, Joram and Ahaziah for her harlotries and witchcraft. Jezebel was thrown from
her palace window by the eunuch officials of the royal harem in Jezreel and eaten by dogs in fulfillment of Elijah’s
prophecy (1 Kgs. 21:19-24).
22 When Joram (Jezebel’s son) saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu?" So he answered, "What peace, as long
as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?"…31 Jehu entered at the gate…32 he
looked up at the window (where Jezebel was standing), and said, "Who is on my side? Who?" So two or three
eunuchs looked out at him. 33 Then he said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down… he (Jehu) trampled
her underfoot (with his horse).36 And he said, "This is the word of the Lord, which He spoke by His servant Elijah…
" (2 Kgs. 9:22-36)
M. Summary: The OT Jezebel promoted sexual immorality and idolatry and murdered the prophets and the people
(2 Kgs. 9:7), and stole some of the property of those she killed.
N. The four primary spiritual strongholds across the earth in the End-Times are murder, sorcery, immorality and theft
(Rev. 9:21). Immorality stimulates the physical body outside of God’s will as sorcery stimulates the spirit. Notice the
progression: immorality numbs the spirit and hardens one’s conscience. This opens the way for people to embrace
sorcery which emboldens murder and theft as will be seen in persecution of the Church and Israel. Murder brings
great judgment.
21 They did not repent of their murders or sorceries or sexual immorality or thefts. (Rev. 9:21)
1 The Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and
doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron… (1 Tim. 4:1-2)
O. The spirit of Jezebel against the spirit of Elijah is a war of two prayer movements.
P. The spirit of Jezebel is the operation of immorality and sorcery (witchcraft) for the purpose of stopping people
from worshipping Jesus and partnering with Him in the prophetic (power). The NT Jezebel killed the prophets spiritually
by seducing them to immorality. Today, the spirit of Jezebel with its immorality (pornography, adultery, etc.) kills the
prophetic spirit.
Q. Today the introduction to the spirit of Jezebel is it most clearly seen as the spirit that operates behind
pornography. Men are most responsible for producing, promoting and partaking of it.
R. The spirit of Jezebel will escalate to wholesale murder of Christians and Jews. The OT Jezebel hated Elijah and killed the
prophets. Herod and Herodias operating in the spirit of Jezebel killed John the Baptist who operated in the spirit of Elijah.
S. The two faces of the spirit of Antichrist emphasized in the Book of Revelation are the spirit of Babylon and the spirit of
Jezebel. The multitudes in heaven rejoice at the fall of Babylon.
1 Glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! 2 For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has
judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His
servants shed by her. (Rev. 19:1-2)
T. This emphasizes aspects of revelation of Jesus that are necessary to gain victory over Jezebel.
18 The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass… (Rev. 2:18)
1. Son of God – emphasizes Jesus’ deity and power to withstand Jezebel.
2. Who has eyes like a flame of fire – in Scripture, fire symbolizes both the impartation of holy love and the release
of judgment. He releases either the “fire of grace” or the “fire of judgment” depending on if we open to Him or resist Him.
In context to our war against the spirit of Jezebel, Jesus will impart passion (Lk. 24:32; Acts 2:1-4) which includes
convicting us of compromise or He will release judgment on immorality.
3. His feet are like fine brass – in Scripture, brass is a symbol of judgment against sin. Jesus’ feet of bronze speak of His
promise as a warrior to tread in triumph over Jezebel.
U. Jesus warned the saints in Thyatira of coming under judgment.
20 I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and
seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent of her
sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with
her into great tribulation, unless they repent. 23 I will kill her children with death… (Rev. 2:20-23)
V. Jezebel was a leader in the church with a reputation of consistent “accurate prophetic revelation”.
W. Believers are sometimes made sick and killed in context to God’s judgment on immorality. Jesus does this in His
zeal to heal them before they face Him in eternity (1 Cor. 5:1-5; 11:30-32). The judgment of being cast into tribulation
has a parallel reference to believers being judged with unbelievers for indulging in immorality during the Tribulation
in the End-Times (Rev 7:14).
X. The promised reward in this age to the faithful refers to Jesus releasing more of His presence and giving more
prophetic light as the darkness of the Tribulation increases and the new Millennial day draws nearer and nearer. The
promised reward in the age to come refers to Jesus releasing more of His presence and giving the faithful authority
in ruling the nations in the Millennium.
26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations …28 and I will give
him the morning star. (Rev. 2:26-28)
16 I, Jesus…am the Bright and Morning Star. (Rev 22:16)
