GIFTS GIVEN - character you strive for

GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT - expressions of power and love

GIRD LOINS – binding the Ephod securely upon the high priest seems to have been the only physical purpose of this girdle.
It did not reinforce or strengthen the loins of the wearer as girdles are intended to do (Psalm 65:6; 93:16).  It did, however,
indicate readiness for service, which is another purpose for being girded (Luke 12:35-37).  Exodus 28:8
•        The long and loose robes worn by the people of the East were fastened up round the waist with a girdle when
proceeding on a journey

GIVING - two areas of unlimited return:  giving and condemning (...with what measure....)

GLASS - Distance, calmness, tranquil, wisdom of God, transparent, crystal clear, reflects glory of God

GLORY -- the glory of the Lord is risen upon you (Isaiah 60:1)

of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels                 (2 Corinthians 4:6,7)
     --K. Copeland (John 7:38-39)
--we are vessels containing God’s power and glory
--a vessel is a pitcher that you pour from                      --I am the spout where the glory comes out
--God’s glory, His presence, is measurable by degrees (2 Corinthians 3:18) amplified

--revelation of the true essence of a thing
•        (God’s) – His eternal qualities
•        God’s goodness to man (MH – Psalm 19)

GLUTTONY - spiritual gluttony is when you are always hunting some new experience or some new spiritual sensation and
John says that God very rightly and discretely and lovingly (He’s not angry and knows this is how humans operate) and
with great wisdom, He begins to withdraw this satisfaction.  These people endure a lot of other imperfections because of
this spiritual gluttony of which the Lord in due time will cure them.  And this is the cure:  through temptations, aridities,
and other trials which are all a part of the dark night.

GOAL - make Jesus the prominent, “first” love of my life
--(John of the Cross/Martin) The goal is not sensible consolation - not to experience God - the goal is to do His will and to
be united with Him.  Don’t stop short of the goal.  What we are really called to, why God created us, is so that we may know
and love as we now know and are loved.  That will happen face to face with God in the beatific vision.  Keep your eyes on
the goal because the decisions you make are always made in the light of the goal that you are seeking.  And if you are
seeking a lesser goal than that, you are making different decisions, and placing different valuations on things.  Make your
decisions in light of the goal:  the beatific vision.
John says that the soul’s chief aim is not to ask for sensible devotion in which there is neither certain nor clear
possession of the Bridegroom in this life but for the manifest presence and vision of His divine essence in which He
desires to be secure and satisfied in the next life.  Moses wanted to see God face to face.  God said you can’t take it right
now, you’d be destroyed, you’ll die.  I’ll let you see the back part of My glory.  But the desire of the human heart - what we
were born for - what we were created for - is to see God face to face in the beatific vision.  It requires a reconstitution of
our bodies, souls, and minds in the resurrection of the dead.  That’s the goal.  Two million years into eternity we will look
back at this life and it will scarcely be remembered because it was so short.  But for all eternity it will either be the beatific
vision or the diabolical vision.

GOALS:
        To take the lowest place at the marriage supper of the Lamb and to be called higher because the Bridegroom calls
me His friend
        To stand before the judgment seat of Christ with much gold, silver and precious stones to present to Him
        To be known in heaven
        To be great in the sight of God when I stand before Christ without fault and with great glory
        To stand before God’s throne with many other souls surrounding me, of whom I might be able to say to Christ,
“Here am I and the children whom God has given Me”
        To hear these simple words:  “Well done, good and faithful servant”

found only in the Book of Revelation

GOD’S DESIRE:  Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments,
that it might be well with them and with their children forever.
--The significance of this prayer lies in the fact that God Himself has come form behind the veil and told us what He
desires.  This is the first time God became man and told us the prayer that strikes the mark. Here we realize immediately
what the kingdom of the heavens is, that it has been extended to include this earth.  God calls us to pray what He desires,
that which He considers to be essential (Matthew 6 - the Lord’s prayer)

GOD’S IMAGE:  knowledge, righteousness, true holiness (Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10)

GOD-LIKE - to become God-like is the highest goal of humanity.  It is what we are supposed to do.  But Eve was misled
on the right way to accomplish this goal.  By taking God’s place and deciding for yourself what is best for your life, you
become your own “god”.  Scripture clearly states that to become like God is not to be God Himself - it is to reflect His
characteristics and recognize His authority over our life.

GOD REPENTS - it is not that God changes His mind, but, when the sinner’s mind is changed, God’s way towards him is
changed; the sentence is reversed, and the curse of the law is taken off (MH)

GOD’S WAYS:
--Law - word/word of God - standard by which something functions
     --Precepts
--Statutes - standard that which is set
     --Decree
--God’s ways --the way you function, the way you think/operate
--Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way
--Psalm 73:17  It is in the sanctuary of His presence that we gain understanding into life’s enigmas
--Romans 8:28 The sanctuary of His embrace is where God reveals purpose
--primary method God uses to change His weak/sinful Bride is to nourish & cherish her
--God’s order is facts and fire (Tozer)
•        Paths of life marked out by Your law

GOGGLEPLEX - 1 plus 100 zeros

GOLD - tried in fire:
     1.  Brings out impurities that are visible
             a.  complaining
             b.  bitterness
     2.  Impurities cleared away makes transparent; reflect the glory of the Lord = pure mind (gold mines)
--Divine nature (image of Christ)/Divine character
--become like Him when spend time with Him
--gold ribbons - holiness, going from someplace to something; God’s purposes
--expresses faith tested by fiery trials

GOLDEN BOWLS - prayer of saints

GOLGOTHA – one conjecture is that there is a mystical sense here.  Golgotha in Syriac is the same with Gilgal in Hebrew,
and therefore one thinks this may have reference to the putting of Christ to death at Golgotha, which was the greatest sin
of the Jewish nation, and of which it might truly be said, “All their wickedness” was summed up in that (MH)  Hosea 9:15

GOLIATH - uncontrolled thoughts; unholy thoughts
•        Soothsayer; cast spells (RH)

GONE BEFORE (THOSE WHO HAVE) -
The great souls in history took ground that future generations could walk over much easier, faster, and safer. A good
example is Count Zinzendorf and the Moravians, who took a generation to establish the principles of modern missions.
They not only cut a path which others could follow, but at times, they wandered up box canyons and had to turn around,
seemingly losing a lot of time and resources with their mistakes. However, even those diversions saved future generations
from having to make the same ones. They prepared a highway and a good map to go with it.

GOOD OLE DAYS - longing for the good ole days is often symptomatic of a discontented heart.  Discontentment usually
enters into our hearts when we feel unappreciated by God or those around us.  These “feelings” of rejection, or of not
being appreciated, make us long for the days of old -- the days when we were honored and felt special.
When discontentment is allowed into our hearts, it immediately begins the work of exhuming old memories, removing
every discomfort that these memories once carried, and then clothing them in shining garments.  After these images have
been doctored, they suddenly spring to life again in our mind’s theater.  As we begin to dwell upon and daydream about
the past, opportunities to participate with God in the present are missed entirely.

GOODNESS – God’s moral attributes

GOSPEL - through the atonement in Jesus blood, men now become one with God (Tozer)
--the four women in Jesus’ genealogy represent the four cardinal points of the gospel:  sinning and justifying it
(Tamar); faith (Rahab); redemption, especially that aspect of it concerning inheritance; and eternal security (wife of Uriah).

GOSPELS - Matthew is a compiler, not a chronicler.  John and Mark are chroniclers, while Luke and Matthew have their
specific plans.  If wish chronological order of events look at John’s account if they occur in Judea or at Mark’s if they occur
in Galilee.

GOSPEL AGE - Matthew 11:13 “all the prophets and the law prophesied until John; from that time the gospel of the kingdom
of God is preached, and every man enters violently into it.”  The words of Jesus do not belong to the dispensation of the
law.  The age of the gospel had already begun.

GOVERNMENT OF GOD - whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap (Galatians 6:7)

GRACE - Set your heart to do what you can, and the grace of God shall work in you both to will and to do that which,
without that grace, you could not do. (p 736 MH)
--God’s willingness to use His power on your behalf even though you don’t deserve it.
     --grace = willingness
     --Righteousness delivered from death (Jewish)
•        Grace is the unearned power of God.  It is unearned – so no man may boast.  For by the unearned power of God you
have been saved – through faith.  Faith in what?  Faith in the fact that God was willing to do something for you that you
could not do for yourself.  God was willing and able to extend you forgiveness when you could not earn it yourself.   For
by the unearned power of God, we have been saved, that by faith – because we put our faith in it – and that not of
ourselves.  We didn’t think that up.  We didn’t generate that ability.  He did it.  So that no man many boast.   (MD)

GRAPES - symbolic of Israel’s fruitfulness in doing God’s work on the earth; in Passover meal fruit of vine symbol of
God’s goodness to His people
--The grape though full of sweetness, retains none for itself.  The grape yields all that it is to the wine presser.  So
likewise the more you are cast down and persecuted, the more kindly         you will act to those that mistreat you with
evil intent. (MG)

GREAT MEN – great men are by office shepherds, and such should have protected God’s flock committed to their
charge; it is the duty both of princes and priests  Zechariah 11:3

GREEK VIEW        - The Greek view of things was in separating spiritual and physical tings - sacred and secular - time
and eternity. The bible does not separate these things but means a division of life in very practical areas.  Our attitude to
daily work has been profoundly effected by Greek thinking that said work was a necessary evil and the least you can do
the better.  The more leisure you have the better.  They bought slaves to do the work.  There is no teaching about
leisure in your bible.  There is a part about going aside and resting but nothing about the vast leisure industry of today.
Work was intended by God.  And it doesn’t matter what work you do to God as long as it is not immoral or illegal.  It’s your
sacred calling, your holy vocation.  God would rather have a good taxi driver than a bad missionary.  We need to get back
to what Martin Luther said “All work ranks the same with God.”  This attitude of separation of spiritual and physical has
profoundly effected the attitude towards sex which God made long before sing got into the world.

GRIEVES THE HOLY SPIRIT:  bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, malice (RJ)

GROUND -- the people and circumstances which the Lord uses to bring about our spiritual development and growth
(Ephesians 2:10) (Matthew 13:8)

GROWTH - 3 progressive levels of growth (not final ones)
     1.  My Beloved is mine, and I am His (self-importance; serving the Lord for own benefit.  He seeks her fellowship and
she just wants what she can get.)
     2.  I am my Beloveds; and my Beloved is mine
     3.  I am my Beloveds and His desire is toward me.  (He is finally the center of her life)
--He measures growth by how quickly you die.  We measure time.  It’s the journey, not the moment.

GUILE (no) – can resist; knows first five books of Bible

GUILT - a warning signal God placed inside you that goes off when you’ve done wrong.  The worst thing we could do is to
eliminate the guilty feelings without eliminating the cause

GUNS - dream of holding - what in gun?  a bullet?  what in bullet?  Without a bullet (no power) Empty gun.  Battery
operated gun; short duration, weaker or effective; cap gun -- toy but no power.          Having a form of Godliness.  Water
gun (shooting Holy spirit at someone)  Say Holy Spirit take care of this.  Aiming a bazooka or machine gun at you
