DAILY - Time continued
DAMASCUS - Capital of Syria which was Israel’s greatest enemy (spiritual warfare)
DANIEL - a eunuch
DARK - beyond any ordinary human mode
DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL - practical term to times of spiritual testing when nothing makes sense. St. John of the Cross
originated the phrase.
• means by which God deepens in us faith, hope, and love
• Even though this happy night darkens the spirit, it does so only to impart light concerning all things. And even
though it humbles individuals and reveals its miseries, it does so only to exalt them. And even though it impoverishes
and empties them of all possessions and natural affections, it does so only that they may reach out divinely to the
enjoyment of all earthly and heavenly things with a freedom of spirit in them all. The Lord is bringing about this
purification so we can truly possess the earth with Him. So we can truly enjoy the universe and all creation with Him -
seeing it truly, understanding it with His understanding, and loving it with His love. The purification is to set us free to
partake in the very vision and love and action of God that created the universe, that redeems it, that sustains it. This
is the promise of Scripture “if you endure with Me, you will reign with Me”. This reigning with the Lord comes from the
purification, the transformation, that allows us to see, live, and act united to the living, seeing, and action of God.
DARKNESS - He imprisons those He loves in order to awaken them in the secret place to mature bridal affections. Don’t
despise your chains, for they bind you to the heart of the One you long for.
• #1 entry way to darkness -- our eyes -- what we look at (RJ)
• “Walk while you have the light, lest darkness come upon you” John 12:35 – darkness here means ‘spriitual
blindness, confusion, lsos of clarity, gloom of spirit and mind, spiritual blindness, indecision’. Day by day a cloud of
uncertainty would settle over and confusion would influence the everyday affairs … This is blindness that comes on
believers. Jesus is talking about a darkened state that comes upon Christians who refuse to mix the Word they hear with
faith. They neglect to grasp, embrace and walk in the light they’ve been given. And one day, they wake up and realize,
“God doesn’t speak to me anymore” … you’re disappointed in your circumstances and in people … you continually doubt
yourself, you’re plagued with questions, and you constantly examine your heart to see where you went wrong. You feel
gloom, despair, indecision, and you can’t shake any of it. This is the darkness that Jesus warned would come upon us if
we don’t seize and walk in the light we have received.
Do you trust His promises?
Do you embrace His precious Word?
Do you go on the offensive against the devil with the Word?
Do you ignore the Lord’s past faithfulness to you?
Do you not trust that He stands with you, in control of everything pertaining to your life?
Isaiah 42:18-23 … “…who is blind but my servant? …” Who gave these people over to such darkness?
Isaiah tells us in verse 24: “Did not the Lord, He against whom we have sinned?” What sin did these people commit, to
be given over to such darkness? It was their UNBELIEF.
THE Lord has no pity for outright unbelief. He’s grieved by it. He expects us to walk in the light we’ve received.
We’re to trust in His Word and lay hold of His promises. Only as we come back to our knowledge of His Word, and to the
conviction of the Holy Spirit, do we exit this darkness.
Unbelief is the root cause behind all hardness of heart. Hebrews 3:17 … unbelief is the mother of all sins. Unbelief
is most dangerous when it is voiced … hardening comes when you take the “super” out of supernatural … there is
nothing natural about the Christian life. It is all supernatural. It’s a life dependent upon miracles from the very beginning
… His miracle working power will deliver you from all bondages … Hard times are guaranteed to come upon all who follow
Jesus. Yet when these times come – when we’re besieged by temptation or despair, and a miracle is needed – we’re to
say with confidence, “Do it again, Lord. You’ve worked miracles before in my life. You’ve delivered your servants
supernaturally throughout history. Do it again, and be glorified. Let your strength be made perfect in my weakness.” (DW – 9/22/03)
DARK SAYINGS - RIDDLE OR PUZZLE Job 33:14-17
DARNEL - a poisonous plant. Nearer to harvest the difference appears. Let them grow together. Christians not here to
get evil from society. Human beings will not uproot evil. Angels will sort it our (wheat and tares)
DARTS - attack
DAUGHTERS - a spiritual condition of those who love God yet are hindered by spiritual passivity and dullness
DAUGHTERS OF JERUSALEM - immature believers who lack discernment in the Spirit (SOS)
DAUGHTER OF ZION - Jerusalem
DAVID - house of Jesus Christ
--David refused to discipline his children and they grew up to embarrass him
--a man after God’s own heart:
1. obeyed the commands of God’s heart
2. studied the emotions of God’s heart
-Numerical value of David = 14
DAVID’S HEART - the key difference between the heart of Saul and the Heart of David was not in their actions, but in
their responses:
Where Saul would make excuses, David would confess
When Saul would try to hide his wicked actions, David would confess
When Saul would act impetuously, David would wait patiently for the Lord
When Saul became jealous of his successor, David responded by supplying his successor with everything he would
need to fulfill his destiny.
Saul and David’s worst enemies were always themselves. Saul’s song of fools teaches us that to sing of self will be our
gravest mistake. David’s song of broken and desperate praise shows us that to focus our life’s actions and responses
on God’s glory will be our only hope.
DAY - God’s day/plan/Sabbath
Begins at evening (Genesis 1:5) -- Day begins at sundown
Beginning of day have fellowship -- Have a meal
Have fellowship -- Then sleep
Then get up and have more nourishment
At end of day you work
Our work ethic is to earn rest by what we do
--time of victory by living in greater light with no shadows (SOS4:6)
--resurrection
--”IN THE DAY when she is spoken for” - SOS 8:8 - Lord begins to require a deeper response as prepare for our
coming wedding (MB)
--”IN THE DAY of God’s visitation” is the season in which He requires maturity from the little ones SOS 8:8
--the wedding day SOS 3;11
--Day = warmth, heat Genesis 1
• The Jews counted a part of a day as a day – NIV Acts 10:30
Day and night – perpetually Rev 7:15
DAY OF DARKNESS – a common prophetic figure used of the day of the Lord and is generally a metaphor for distress
and suffering Joel 2:2
DAY OF THE LORD – In the day of the Lord’s appearing a general melting will take place, but in that day our covenant
with God will be the sure support of our confidence Psalm 75:3 Spurgeon
• Day of darkness – a common prophetic figure used of the day of the Lord and is generally a metaphor for distress
and suffering Joel 2:2
DAYS = years -- Numbers 14:34 -- for every day you shall bear your guilt a year, even forty years
• Days of a king – kingdom – seventy years Isaiah 23:15
DEAD WORKS - those which originate in our own fleshly striving and whose end, no matter what we profess, is to fulfill
our own ego needs or give us personal glory.
DEATH (Jesus) – Jesus told them five recorded times of His death and resurrection:
1. After Peter’s Confession (Matthew 16:21; Mark 8:31; Luke 9:22)
2. After Transfiguration (Matthew 17:9, 12; Mark 9:9, 12)
3. After healing of the epileptic (Luke 9:44)
4. While passing through Galilee (Matthew 17:22-23; Mark 9:31)
5. Near Jerusalem (Matthew 10:17-19; Mark 10:32-34; Luke 18:31-34)
DEATH (Spiritual) - separation from God
-Death comes because of sin. Our days not numbered--God’s miracles can’t be numbered.
-Sting of death is sin/strength of sin is the law --dreams don’t mean literal death; visions may
--Good men die willingly; they are not fetched, they are not forced, but they go. Genesis 15:15
--At death, we go to our fathers, godly fathers that have gone before us to the state of the blessed.
DEATH TO SELF - (Nee) ... The Son of God has come. He died, was buried and was resurrected. The Holy Spirit came
upon Him as noted in Matthew 3. All His works subsequently done on earth are done on the ground of resurrection and
the coming of the Holy Spirit. Although He was yet to die and to be resurrected and the Holy Spirit was yet to come on
Pentecost, He has nonetheless already stood on such ground. From God’s viewpoint, the Lord has already stood on the
ground of death, for He must indeed be baptized unto death to self in order to enter into His work for God. Now He has
the Holy Spirit in Him and upon Him. And He now dares to give us -- in the teaching on the Mount (Matthew 5) -- such
manner of strict command. For the heavier the demand, the greater the response of the divine life within. The life that
our Lord has given us is inexhaustible. It is nothing surprising when we endure beyond our own endurance. God’s
demand never ends; it increases all the time; and yet the life within always carries us through.
DECEIVE - the human tendency is to hide and cover up. If we try to hide our true condition from Him, we not only deceive
ourselves, but we also hold ourselves back from being known by Him.
DECEITFULNESS – it is deceitfulness of the heart to think that we should be wrought upon by the means and advantages
which we have not, while we slight those which we have
DECEPTION - see Pride
-There is deception that results in no information. It comes form lack of urgency about the End Times. Lack of concern
that has no information is covert deception (Matthew 24:4)
--pride: overestimate yourself and underestimate others --Involves anything that you do not understand as the
Lord does
--A concern to be understood and to be perceived in the way that we would like men to acknowledge us spiritually.
And until we are blind to men, even to the ‘spiritual man’ that we think ourselves to be or who we desire to be known as,
we cannot serve God apostolically. We must come to such a selflessness, such a mindlessness about this last man, this
last cruel deceiver, who, after we have given up every other form, yet retains this kind of power by which we are traduced
and compromised; the necessity to be understood by men in the way that we would wish ourselves to be seen and to be
approved. We need to come to a place where we see NO man, even OUR OWN man, even our own seeing. AK
• To believe something that does not rest on biblical foundation of truth. At the end of age the level of deception
high/ a great challenge
• Anytime beloved that somebody says that they are out there ministering to the poor and they are doing to glorify
the nobility of the human spirit and it is divorced from glorifying God, it is evil. It is evil. Good acts done by men to glorify
the nobility of the human spirit apart from God is damnable sin. It is mockery to God. Don’t get lured in by that. (DL)
DEEDS - works; lifestyle
--The deeds you do create your character. Every deed goes into making who we are.
DEEP - means to be unseen (as in fasting) Nee
DEEP THINGS - those known only by the heart of God
Deep calls = speaks of our Lord as a seeking God
DEEP THINGS OF GOD:
• 1 Corinthians 2:7-12
1. Deep love and affection – Ephesians 3:18-19; Romans 2:4
2. Deep displeasure – Psalm 2:5; Isaiah 63:5-6
3. Deep judgments – Psalm 36:6; Romans 11:33
4. Deep thoughts – Psalm 92:5; Romans 11:33; 1 Corinthians 2:7-8
5. Deep wisdom – administration of His plans – Romans 11:33; Colossians 2:3
6. Deep knowledge – Romans 11:33
7. Deep secrets – Daniel 2:22; Deuteronomy 29:29; Psalm 25:14; Proverbs 3:32
DEFILED - polluted by spiritual adultery
DEFILEMENT- empathetic defilement is the permeation of our personal spirit by what is in others’ spirits.
--Two kinds of defilement: general and empathetic
--happens two ways: by our sinful actions, and by association with others
--Can turn empathy into defilement and cause our minds to read what we sense as our own
--There is corporate spiritual defilement from society, world
--Defilement flows from leadership down
--Defilement becomes temptation when we believe its thoughts and feelings and add to them our own lusts and
passions
--SOS 7:10 - defilement of spirit washed off in confession of “His desire is towards me”
DÉJÀ VU – We know that when we sleep, God opens our minds and seals our instructions (Job 33:14-18). This is why
we often know we have been dreaming, but we can’t recall the content; the dream has been sealed, like one would seal
the contents of an envelope. In a night vision or a spiritual dream, God plants seeds of divine destiny within us. He seals
them and keeps them hidden until the maturing process (or what the bible calls the fullness of time) is complete. Then,
when we come into the experiential reality of that time, we discover a feeling of having “been there before”, because we
have – in a dream. These dream fragments are often signposts that we are on a road God knew we were going to take.
Déjà vu comprises fragments of a sealed dream that are revealed when we walk into our moment of destiny. The seal is
broken, and we are given divine confirmation that we are perfectly in step with the purpose for which God has created us. JPJ
DELAY - Nothing surfaces issues of your heart like delay. Luke 18:7. Can’t repent of stuff you can’t see. There is
purpose for the wait.
DELIVER – Save – from all the power, from all the guilt, and from all the pollution of your sins Zephaniah 3:17
DELIVERANCE - a manifestation of the mercy of God. KH
--judgment. God judges enemies and sets free His people. JH
--”Deliver me” says the Psalmist, in language which, beyond all doubt, stretches beyond the present scene, “from
men of the world, which have their portion in this life: as for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness; I shall be
satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness” Psalm 17:13-15
--south wind is deliverance/setting free those in prison and captivity to the oppressions and snares of the world
(fear, lust, jealousies, anger, doubt, tormenting adversaries). Also means to deliver something that has been germinating
in the spiritual womb of a body of people to birth Kingdom purposes in the earth.
--To cast out demons is always done with authority, never with power. For it is the “name” of the Lord, and not by
any power, that demons are cast out.
DELUSION - when your mind agrees with a false idea
Delusion in the earth:
Most sincere believers assume that they are somewhat in the mode of spiritual pursuit of God
Mistake sincerity for wholeheartedness
Enemy tries to do false charge against sincerity that hopeless hypocrites
Have to keep spiritually sincere in the confidence of God (that He loves us even when we mess up)
Sincerity with confidence is not wholeheartedness
Wholeheartedness is entered into by spiritual violence
--requires time to search it out
--people defensive about the issue of not wanting God’s best
--we live in carnal ease/spiritual lethargy
DEMON POSSESSION - a spiritual sickness Matthew 4;24
--May at times be confused in mind but at other times clear in mind, though the will is definitely unable to control the
body. A demon may or may not possess the mind, but it certainly possesses the will. The affected element in an insane
person is the mind, while that in a demon-possessed person is the will. So insanity is in the realm of the mind, whereas
demon possession is centered in the realm of the will -- although sometimes even in a demon-possessed person his mind
may also be confused.
The demon-possessed becomes a totally other person when the possession is active. When the demon departs or
goes into hiding, the man seems to be completely well.
Demon possession is a supernatural illness.
The demon-possessed are one hundred percent healed, and the sickness will not pass on to the next generation.
Mental illness, however, may become hereditary. The insane do not have supernatural knowledge, but the demon-
possessed have such knowledge.
DEMONS - To cast out demons is always done with authority, never with power. For it is the “name” of the Lord, and not
by any power, that demons are cast out.
• The material physical realm – the earth is the place where we have human emotions and we have physical
sensations – undoubtedly they will be better and perfectly pure in the resurrected body in the new earth – but there will
be an emotional and physical dimension that you don’t have in the spirit. That is why demons want to inhabit bodies
because they feel so much more in the physical realm.
DENARY (penny) - the price of a day’s labor
DENOMINATE - name that distinguishes
DENOMINATIONS - when a movement quits moving it becomes a denomination (RJ)
DENY YOURSELF – per Beth Moore it is fasting
• Deny yourself – fast Leviticus 16:29 (Z)
DEPRAVED HEART - arrogant determination to meet our own needs
DEPRESSION – Every person has been given a conscience that tells them right from wrong. To violate it is an open door
for depression, which leads to anger and ultimately conflict with others. (RJ)
DESERT of self - MG
DESIRE – my lust, my soul – which in Hebrew psychology is the seat of desire, here for vengeance and plunder Exodus 15:9
DESIRES - Lord’s desires (Psalm 132:13, 14)
--His desire we draw near to Him and come to know Him--not the discovery of His will (BS)
--(MG) One reason why God takes away and implants desires at His own good pleasure. Designing to confer some
blessing upon His follower, He first infuses a desire in the follower’s heart for the particular blessing He Himself wants to
give, in order that He may hear and grant the request. “Lord, Thou has heard the desire of the humble; Thou wilt prepare
their heart, Thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.” (Psalm 10:17). He prepares the heart and grants the request. “Delight
thyself also in the Lord and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart”. Psalm 37:4. The Spirit making intercession in
and for the believer, then the believer’s desires and requests are those of the Holy Ghost (Romans 8:26) and Jesus
Christ dwelling in him declares “I know that You hear me always” (John 11:42).
DESTINY - if out of God’s determined destiny, it will make you sick
-You cannot improve on God’s destiny for your life
-God’s purpose determined your desire. God built you for what he birthed you to do
-Your Destiny:
1. Your deep natural desire
2. The dream that won’t let you go
3. The ideas that won’t leave your head
4. What you always wanted to do
5. The culmination of all your natural talents.
DESTRUCTION – realization, loss, waste
Realization – exclusion from salvation
Aware of loss
Waste – missed salvation
DEUTERONOMY - New generation - Moses re-reads the Law; new revelation that God loves them; modern minds don’t
understand God’s love. It’s not a feeling. Love is a choice.
DEVICES of enemy - suggest evil, prompt men to do it. Leading people to hurtful extremes.
DEVIL - can intrude in dreams that is why we have to have the Holy Spirit
DIFFICULTIES - God uses to remind you that He alone is God (Ezekiel 6:14)
DIGNIFIED - self-possessed
DIMENSION - 4th dimension world of the Spirit
DIRGE - presence and reality of sin in our world and its consequences being dealt with. Our death to self (Matthew 10:38). Unredeemed
deal with it in judgments of God. Redeemed deal with it with self-denial.
DIED SUDDENLY - means you live; go from death unto life; something in life changing
DIRECTIONS – Behind – from the west; in marking the points of the compass, Orientals face the east, which is before
them; the west is behind. The right hand is the south; the left is the north
DISASTERS - all natural disasters are a result of universal sin-Romans 1
DISCERNMENT – must have discernment in order to have authority
• The church is often misled by a false gift of discernment. A ‘spirit of suspicion’ was masquerading as the gift of
discernment in the church and hardly anyone recognized it. The true gift of discernment can only work through
compassion. Philippians 1:9. Anything but love will distort discernment.
DISCIPLESHIP – Matthew 16:24-28:
• Here is the law of discipleship laid down, and the terms fixed, upon which we may have the honor and benefit of it MH
• What it is to be a disciple of Christ: it is to come after Him
• A true disciple of Christ, not one that prescribes to Him, as Peter now undertook to do. A disciple of Christ comes
after him, as the sheep after the shepherd, one that walks in the same way that He walked in, treads in His steps, and
“follows the Lamb, whithersoever He goes”.
• “IF” – a choice
• The fundamental law of admission into Christ’s school: to deny yourself. It is both the “strait” gate, and the “narrow” way.
DISCIPLINES - active obedience (SOS 3:2)
--recognizing need of help from others (SOS 3:3)
• The qualities that Yeshua saw in the Zebedee brothers were: (AI)
1. Work Ethic – He saw that they were willing to work hard (diligence). Many young people want to be "in the ministry,"
but don't really want to do the hard work that goes along with it.
2. Team Work – The fishermen worked together as brothers and friends (cooperation). If someone is extremely gifted
and anointed, but he can not work as part of a team, he is not ready to be part of the ministry staff.
3. Under Authority – They worked under the authority of Mr. Zebedee (submission). While we are all equal brothers
and sisters before the Lord, if we are to work together, there must be an organizational structure. Refusing to submit to
authority basically disqualifies someone from the team.
4. Over Authority – There were other employees working in their fishing business. They had to know how to assign
them tasks and oversee their work (delegation). This requires a combination of the three qualities just listed.
5. Constructive Attitude – The men were repairing and cleaning the nets (servanthood). Many problems arise in the
ministry. Team members must have a "problem solving" mentality, willing to "fix" and not just complain.
We are not talking here about a disciple in the general sense of being "saved," but a disciple serving on a ministry team.
The same rules could apply in looking for someone to be hired in a business.
One of the key elements of the Zebedee brothers was their family relations. They were working with relatives and even
their father. Part of fulfilling one's destiny in the Lord is to be healed on the inside of wounds from previous relationships.
One does not have to work in his dad's business, but he must have a basic level of forgiveness and inner healing from
his past.
The man from the Gaderenes was in many ways "more spiritual" than the Galilean fishermen. He was zealous. He had a
miraculous testimony. He immediately went out and preached in ten cities. Many today might think that he had a more
"successful ministry" than John and James (at least in the first years). But Yeshua was looking for long term character
development and not just testimonies for a newsletter.
Yeshua sent him home, not to disqualify him, but to develop him. Had he submitted to that process, he might have
become one of the leaders of the First Century revival and the book of Acts community of faith.
Often people with a great calling on their life cannot restrain the outward ministry for the time necessary to deal with
healing and character issues. They run forward, usually jumping from one ministry project to another, but in the long run
there is less fruit than if they had been willing to go through the right preparation.
We as leaders must have a burning desire to equip and release the younger generation into their calling and ministry.
We dare not hold them back. Yet at the same time we must look for those who have the patience and integrity to be
transformed from the Gadarene stage to the Zebedee stage.
Yeshua did see those character qualities in the rich young ruler. Here the problem was the opposite. Because he was
successful in this world, he was not willing to make the sacrifices required to follow Yeshua. Many today are withholding
their dedication to the Lord because of such basic issues as comfortable lifestyle, material possessions, reputation,
and recreation.
No doubt the "success" level of the rich young ruler seemed higher than that of the Galilean fishermen. But God
measures success not by what we have (Luke 12:15) but by what we give (Luke 21:4). Some believe that this man did
repent later, selling his possessions to lay them at the apostles feet (Acts 4:36).
Let us not be so "super spiritual" like the Gaderene man, that we are not willing to go through the stages of character
development. Let us not be so "success oriented" like the rich young ruler, that we miss the sacrificial dedication needed
to be a true disciple. Let us be like Yeshua's disciples, who were called from being fishermen to fishers of men.
DISCONTENT – the sin of the discontented people: they despise their own country and love to run it down because it
does not make so great a noise in the world, as some other kings and kingdoms do Isaiah 8:6
DISDAIN – Luke 18:9 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and
despised others
• Despised – disdained, made nothing of others, treated them with sovereign contempt; pride, vainglory, and
contempt for others lodged within
• Blasphemy is unmitigated disdain. To blaspheme against the Holy Spirit is to so shut your heart, so no matter what
He did you would not recognize it as being from God. Hardness of heart; refuse to embrace love; selfishness and self-
protection
DISEASE = dis-ease
--God looks upon disease as a spiritual thing. “By His stripes we are healed”. They are not physical stripes.
Disease and sin are one. They have one common origin. Tow different ways of manifesting: (1) physical body;
(2) spiritual
Sin = spiritual
Disease = spiritual
Disease manifest in body or spirit
DISGUST - see Pride
DISLOYAL - want to blame others for their disloyalty. Faithful to cook but disloyal with mouth
DISOBEDIENCE - agreement with satan in our inner man
--The greatest sin because God’s will not done on earth (Nee). The authority of the heavens is seen in our
obedience, not in our works, sufferings, or sacrifices
DISPASSION – OR IN Greek ‘apatheia’ – St. John Climacus states: by dispassion I mean a heaven of the mind within the
heart … Its effect is to sanctify the mind and to detach it from material things, and it does so in such a way that, after
entering this heavenly harbor, a man, for most of his earthly life, is enraptured, like someone already in heaven, and he is
lifted up to the contemplation of God.
DISPENSATIONS - movements of God
--innocence, government, promise, grace, godly government
--Dispensations
ß
Covenant
ß
Laws
ß
Offerings
--Under Old Testament no man was permitted to approach to God. Under Christian dispensation the way to the
holiest is now laid open by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 3:6)
--Much of the beauty of God’s dispensations lies in their mutual connection and coherence, and the reference they
have one to another. MY - Matthew 11:10
DISPENSATIONS OF MAN:
1. Dispensation of Innocence 5. Dispensation of Law
2. Dispensation of Conscience 6. Dispensation of Grace (present day)
3. Dispensation of Human Government 7. Dispensation of Divine Government (millennium)
4. Dispensation of Promise
DISTURBANCES - Disturbances never arise in the soul without the apprehensions of the memory. When all things are
forgotten, nothing disturbs the peace or stirs the appetites . . “What the memory doesn’t remember, the emotions don’t
get stirred up. We observe this as often as people begin to think about a matter, they are moved and aroused over it,
little or much according to the kind of apprehension. If the apprehension is bothersome or annoying they feel saddened
or hatred; if agreeable they experience desire and joy; thus they will at times feel joyful, or sad, or hatred, now love -
unable to have tranquility or peace of soul that allows the approach of God.
An unsettled soul, John of the Cross says, has no foundation of moral good and is incapable of receiving spiritual
good. Spiritual good is impressed only on a restrained and peaceful soul. Clearly, John says, it i always vain to be
disturbed since being disturbed is never any help. Enduring whatever may come with tranquility and peaceful equanimity
not only reaps many blessings, but helps the soul so that in these very adversities, it manages better in judging them and
employing the proper remedy.
Keep recollected - keep focused on God - so you can understand what is happening, and you can be led by the
Spirit, so you can respond in a way that is useful and relevant. Worry and anxiety is a hindrance to understanding and
acting.
DIVIDED HEART - not united in love to God
DNA - “looking for a city” is built into our DNA
DO - What can God do?
--Deliver: ..will not allow beyond what we can endure (1 Cor 10:13)
--Subdue: ..those who walk in pride He abases (Dan 4:37)
--Create anew ...raise up children from stones (Matt 3:9)
--Destroy: ..able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Matt 10:28)
--Preserve believers ...never perish, in His hand (John 10:28,29)
--Does what He speaks - Titus 1:2
- What can’t God do?
--K. Copeland: God put man in charge (Psalm 8:6). He doesn’t interfere whenever He wants. He respects the
dominion and authority He has given us. So until man’s time is up, God restricts His power on earth, taking action only
when He is asked.
--impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18, Numbers 23:19)
--can’t repent (Numbers 23:19)
--His word cannot return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11)
--I will not contend forever nor will I always be angry (Isaiah 57:16)
--there has not failed one word of His good promises (1 Kings 8:56)
--He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13)
--cannot not do what He speaks/does what He speaks (Titus 1:2)
--God hasn’t changed, but His covenants have
DOCTRINE - a pet doctrine is a danger because it is religiously motivated. A teaching that we elevate to a position of
undue importance. When we overemphasize any teaching, we stand in danger.
DOCTRINE OF CREATED ORDER – 1 Timothy 2:9-15:
Adam first – not deceived – his mistake is he went along with it
Eve – Eve deceived
DOGMATIC SPIRIT - fear and insecurity is the root
DOGS - non-covenant
--those who hate reproofs Matthew 7:6
--(WN) Dogs and swine stand as definite types in the Scriptures. According to Leviticus 11, both are unclean
animals. A dog is totally unclean, both within and without. A swine is unclean inside but clean outside, for it “parteth the
hoof, and is clovenfooted, but cheweth not the cude”. (Leviticus 11:7). Dogs therefore typify the perishing; while swine
typify the hypocrites or nominal Christians. Today if you cast the holy things to the dogs, they are unable to discern that
these are holy. Hence, not being satisfied, and even being displeased, they will turn and rend you. And if you cast your
pearls before the swine, they do not realize the preciousness of these objects; they will therefore trample them under
their feet.
DOMINION
-Men not created to dominate women. Bible says “Let them have dominion.” Created to lead together; different but
completely equal.
-First earth to dominate is yourself
-Genesis 2:26 Dominion over: birds of air, fish of sea, animals of the field, over all the earth (not people)
DONKEYS - Male donkeys - disturbed, muddy. Probably from the dull, stupid appearance of this animal as if it were always
affected with melancholy. Female donkeys - strength - probably the strong animal as being superior in muscular force to
every other animal of its size.
DOOR - (everlasting ) = the heart
--the point of transition from His omnipresence into His manifest presence (WT)
--the point of entry for others; speaks of an evangelist activity to come in or a teacher opening new truths
--One of the famous paintings of Jesus is “I Am the Light of the world”. He chose three girls to model Christ for him.
One the face, one the figure, and the other the hair dressed up in bishops robes. He painted Revelation 3:20 thinking
that the door was the door of the human heart with no handle on the outside and could only be opened in the inside.
Preachers have used this all the world over and it is wrong. It is patronizing. We don’t invite Jesus in. We’re not saying
we’ll give room for You in our hearts. It is the sinner knocking at the door of the kingdom and it is Jesus who decides if
He will let him in. And in fact Jesus is the door Himself. We should never use this to counsel unbelievers because it
doesn’t mention repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Spirit. (Pawson)
• The eye as a mere organ of sense must give place to the ear. Therefore it is wittily observed, that our Savior
commanding the abscession of the offending hand, foot, and eye, yet never spoke of the ear. If your hand, your foot, or
your eye, cause you to offend, deprive yourself of them; but part not with your ear, for that is an organ to derive unto your
soul’s salvation. As Christ says there, a man may enter into heaven, lamed in his feet, as Mephibosheth, blind in his
sight, as Barzillai, maimed in his hand, as the dry-handed man in the gospel; but if there be not an ear to hear of the way,
there will be no foot to enter into heaven. If God be not first in the ear, He is neither sanctifiedly in the mouth, nor
comfortably in the heart. The Jews had eyes to see Christ’s miracles, but because they had no ears to hear His wisdom,
therefore they had no feet to enter into his kingdom. The way into the house is by the door, not by the window; the eye
is but the window of the heart, the ear is the door. Now Christ stands knocking at the door, not at the window. And He
will not come in at the window but at the door… The way to open and let Him in is by the door; to hear His voice. Bernard
has this description of a good ear: Which willingly hears what is taught, wisely understands what it hears, and obediently
practices what it understands. (Thomas Adams)
• Point of entry for others; evangelist; speaks of the evangelist inviting outsiders to come in, and the teacher opening
the door of new truths. God opens people’s hearts to new truths through evangelists and teachers.
DOORS - in dreams often signifies occasion or opportunity (AC p.1126)
--ready to walk into a choice
--three sets of double doors/side by side/behind each other: three issues to make a choice
DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD – the prophetic word (TB)
DOUBLE-MINDEDNESS - looking to God AND another source
DOUBLE PORTION - “I want to be a son of yours. Everything you have, I receive an inheritance. I can go forth and
increase what you have. Everything you didn’t complete, I can complete.”
--to receive you must first recognize your calling 1 King 19:19
--Jordan is the place where you receive the double portion anointing -- it is the place of vision (see mantle)
DOUBLES - has extra meaning
DOUBTS - Don’t doubt God. If you must doubt something, doubt your doubts because they are unreliable; but never
doubt God nor His word (Bosworth)
--questionings in your mind; reasonings
DOVE
1. Dove is harmless
2. Dove only eats purest grain (eat the pure word of God)
3. The dove is fruitful. Has eggs 10-12 times a year.
4. When dove is injured, it quickly forgets its injuries.
5. The dove mates for life. Mourning dove is a dove whose mate is gone.
6. The dove is a revelation of the anointing. The only body shape the Holy Ghost ever used to represent Himself.
--voice of turtle dove = prophetic and anointed vocal expression of His Word --has a single eye (no side
vision)
--Does not have peripheral vision. Can only see straight ahead. Can’t focus on two things (single-minded in
devotion)
--only has one mate when it dies will not take another (loyalty)
• The dove is the most inoffensive of birds; and though attacked by other birds, it never attacks in return. (Jewish
bible)
• A bird that has little understanding; that is easily snared and taken; that is careless about is own young, and seems
to live without any kind of thought. It has been made, by those who, like itself, are without heart, the symbol of conjugal
affection. Nothing worse could have been chosen, for the dove and its mate are continually quarrelling (AC) (Hosea 7)
DOVE’S DUNG – all that’s left of former movement (2 Kings 6:25) (RH)
DOVE’S EYES - the loving contemplation by which she looks at God
--eyes of faith and revelation; purity, innocence and loyalty
• Dove’s eyes – single eye: “You only are my Helper. If You don’t save me, I am not saved. If you don’t heal me,
I am not healed. If You don’t deliver me, I am not delivered. I have no other recourse, no Plan B, no alternative plan.
I am not entertaining other options. It’s You and You alone. You are my God.”
• A dove speaks of singleness of purpose because it does not have peripheral vision but rather its focus is clearly
set on the object in front of it. Also, it reveals singleness of devotion because they only have one mate.
DRAGON OUT OF THE SEA - rising up out of humanity
DREAMS - for many prove to be the main source of knowing (Clowning p64)
--given by Father to help see the door of His dwelling place (RJ)
--dreams can be a door to your heart which will lead you to Him (RJ)
--if trying to change a dream -- Lord telling you to change so it doesn’t happen
--an exaggeration to get your attention of things
--God reveals His plans/agenda in dreams (His nature and heart in visions)
--wicked can see dreams of warning
• These were dreams that had an interpretation – they were prophetic Genesis 40:5
• A spiritual dream is more real than what you think of as real. The Father gave men dreams to help them see the
door to His dwelling place. He will only dwell in men’s hearts, and dreams can be a door to your heart which will lead you
to Him. That is why His angels so often appear to men in their dreams. In dreams they can bypass the fallen mind of
man and go straight to his heart. FQ P44
DREAMS OF CITIES - circumstances in your life
DREAMS REPEATED - mean will soon be realized (dream within dream)
DREAMED THAT YOU DREAMED - it is very important
DREAMED YOU DID SOMETHING BUT REALLY DIDN’T - dreamed you got up and dressed and went to work but
really didn’t. Afraid of doing something. Anxiety in the heart.
DREDLOCKS - in hair; acting in rebellion
DRIED OUT spirit due to willful sin. Know its wrong and keep doing it anyhow.
DRINK – suffer Matthew 20:23
DRINK THE CUP – a Jewish expression that meant to share someone’s fate
• To drink have to: hold, lift, drink
DRINKING - used as a way to wash away sorrow. We have no sorrow, so we have not the need of washing it away with
alcohol.
• Refusing a drink is avoiding intimacy
DRIP - the right amount as opposed to excessive
DRYNESS - The reason for the experience of dryness is that God is transferring His goods and strength from our senses
to our spirit. The reason He is doing this is that we are sensual beings and our first contact with reality is through the
senses. The senses aren’t the deepest part of ourselves. So God first communicates Himself to our senses, but then He
has to move the communication of Himself from our senses to our spirit and He has to dry up the senses and our
experiences in the senses to move the relationship on a deeper level of the spirit and to more profound faith, hope, and
love. Through patience and perseverance in prayer, they will be doing a great deal without activity on their part. Just
showing up for prayer, just persevering, is doing a great deal. All that is required of them here is freedom of soul that
they liberate themselves from the impediment and fatigue of ideas and thoughts and care not about thinking and
meditating. They must be content simply with the loving and peaceful attentiveness to God and live without the concern,
effort and desire to taste Him. The goal isn’t to have these feelings come back more, the goal is to love more, to believe
more, to hope more -- to more freely choose God in the midst of affliction and in the midst of dryness. (John of the
Cross/Martin)
--If there is a secret need to appear right and good and strong in the eyes of others
DUST - inactivity. Death/somebody died or may mean that’s where you’re headed = old flesh
--something you put on shelf that God wants you to take down
--without shaking off
--wind of Holy Spirit blow off
--the symbol of death itself Genesis 3:14
DUST OF THE EARTH - Abram’s seed according to his flesh (his spiritual seed as the stars)
