30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the
land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. 31 Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them;
I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,"
says the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 22:30-31)
Joel 2:1-18
1 Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
for the day of the LORD is coming, for it is at hand: 2 A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and
thick darkness…A people come, great and strong, the like of whom has never been; nor will there ever be
any such after them, even for many successive generations. 3 A fire devours before them, and behind them
a flame burns…behind them a desolate wilderness; surely nothing shall escape them…
10 The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and moon grow dark…
11…For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; who can endure it?
12 "Now, therefore," says the LORD, "Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with
mourning." 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious
and merciful…and of great kindness; He relents from doing harm. 14 Who knows if He will turn and relent, and
leave a blessing behind Him…
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; 16 Gather the people, sanctify the
congregation…
17 Let the priests…weep between the porch and the altar; let them say, "Spare Your people, O LORD, and do
not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the
peoples, 'Where is their God?' "
18 Then the LORD will be zealous for His land, and pity His people. (Joel 2:1-18)
22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them will return; the destruction
decreed shall overflow with righteousness. 23 For the Lord GOD of hosts will make a determined end in the
midst of all the land. 24 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: "O My people, who dwell in Zion, do not be
afraid of the Assyrian. He shall strike you with a rod and lift up his staff against you, in the manner of Egypt.
(Isaiah 10:22-24)
1 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together…2 Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like
chaff, before the LORD'S fierce anger comes upon you, before the day of the LORD'S anger comes upon
you! 3 Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth…seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will
be hidden in the day of the LORD'S anger. (Zephaniah 2:1-3)
A. Spirit of prayer (weight of glory). Humans can not produce it but only position self to receive it
10 I will pour on the house of David…the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they
have pierced; they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his son. (Zechariah 12:10)
B. Elijah and the wet wood.
32 Then with the stones he built an altar…33 And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on
the wood, and said, "Fill four waterpots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood." 34 Then
he said, "Do it a second time,"…he said, "Do it a third time," and they did it a third time. 35 So the water ran all
around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. 36 Elijah the prophet…said, "LORD God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel…37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this
people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." 38 Then
the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it
licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they
said, "The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!" (1 Kings 18:32-39)
II. PRAYER FOR MERCY
Oh, do not remember former iniquities against us! Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us, For we
have been brought very low. 9 Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of Your name; And deliver us,
and provide atonement for our sins, For Your name's sake! (Psalm 79: 8-9)
