I. PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH GOD
A. Confessing personal sin – repentance
“Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my
supplication …” (Daniel 9:20)
B. Embracing the truth of who we are before God – “our belovedness”
“At the beginning of your supplications the command went out and I have come to tell you, for YOU ARE greatly
beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision…” (Daniel 9:23)
a. Our ability to receive increased revelation of being beloved.
“And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you…” (Daniel 10:11)
b. Strengthened by the knowledge of being God’s beloved.
“He said, “O man greatly beloved … be strong, yes, be strong!” So when he spoke to me I was strengthened,
and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me” (Daniel 10:19)
“And suddenly a voice came from heaven saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
(Matthew 3:17)
C. Pre-occupation with God – the primary “dream f our heart” changes from seeking more earthly honor and comfort
(being great in man’s sight) to becoming an extravagant lover of God (being great in God’s sight).
a. Lay aside dreams of our heart (mostly comfort and honor) and make Him our desire.
II. INCREASE OF PROPHETIC ANOINTING
A. Supernatural skill to understand – especially the end of the age
“I come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many
days yet to come” (Daniel 10:14)
“He (angel) talked with me, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you SKILL TO UNDERSTAND. At the beginning
of your supplications the command went out, I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore … understand
the vision” (Daniel 9:22-23)
“I proclaimed a fast … that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way.” Ezra 8:21
“I heard a man’s voice … Gabriel, make this man understand the vision. So he came near … he said to me,
“Understand … that the vision refers to the time of the end.” (Daniel 8:16-17)
“…a message was revealed to Daniel … the appointed time was long; and he … had understanding of the vision
(Daniel 10:1)
B. Lifestyle to posture yourself to receive everything ordained for this hour.
C. Prophetic anointing to receive and understand divine information.
“Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams (Daniel 1:17)
“An excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were
found in this Daniel … the king said to Daniel, “I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and
understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.” (Daniel 5:12-14)
“He said “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you. Then he said, “from the first
day that you set your heart to understand, … your words were heard; I have come because of your words.”
(Daniel 10:11-12)
“Those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame,
by captivity and plundering” (Daniel 11:33)
“many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall
understand, but the wise shall understand.” (Daniel 12:10)
“In the church at Antioch … as they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to
Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:1-3)
D. Focus their lives on gaining spiritual understanding.
E. Spiritual understanding – God’s judgment
“As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before
the Lord that we might … understand Your truth.” (Daniel 9:13)
The anger of the Lord will not turn back until He has executed and performed the thoughts of His heart. In the
latter days you will understand it perfectly. (Jeremiah 23:20)
“The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you
will consider it. (Jeremiah 30:24)
“I said “Surely these are … foolish; for hey do not know the way of the Lord, the judgment of their God. I will go
to the great men and speak to them, for they have known the way of the Lord, the judgment of their God.” But these
have altogether broken the yoke and burst the yoke. (Jeremiah 5:4-5)
“ …for when Your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.” (Isaiah 26:9)
“…for My Holy Name’s sake…” (Ezekiel 36:22
III. OPEN HEAVEN
A. Heavenly conflict between angels and demons due to prayer and fasting.
“Then he said to me, ‘Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to
humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. “But the prince of
the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me,
for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.” (Daniel 10:12-13)
“Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and
when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. But I will tell you what is noted in the scripture of Truth,
No one upholds me against these except Michael, your prince.” (Daniel 10:20-21)
B. Angels are dispatched through prayer and fasting yet they are resisted by demonic forces. The prayer and fasting
that initially releases the angels contributes to their ability to press through the demonic resistance.
C. Moses prevailed when Aaron and Hur lifted his hands – Exodus 17.
“Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amale. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the
hill with the rod of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses said to him and fought with Amalek. Moses, Aaron, and Hur
went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his
hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it.
And Aaron and Hur supported his hands …. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
(Exodus 17:9-13)
D. Governmental changes in the spiritual and natural realm through fasting.
“Daniel, from the first day that you set your heart to understand … but the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood
me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with
the kings of Persia.” (Daniel 10:12-13).
“He said … now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of
Greece will come … no one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince. (Daniel 10:20-21)
E. Angelic visitations related to praying – Jacobs ladder – Genesis 28
“He talked with me, ‘O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. At the beginning of your
supplications the command went out and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the
matter, and understand the vision…” (Daniel 9:22-23)
“He said, ‘O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you … for I have now been sent to
you.’ Then he said, ‘Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand … your words were heard; and
I have come because of your words.” (Daniel 10:11-12)
a. Jacob’s ladder
“Then he (Jacob) dreamed and behold a ladder was set up on the earth and its top reached to heaven; and
there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” (Genesis 28:12)
b. Jesus’ prophesy to Nathaniel
“And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and
descending upon the Son of Man” (John 1:51
F. Prophetic worship – adoring gaze of God
“Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant and … cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary.
‘O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations” (Daniel 9:17-18)
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face … then I will hear
from heaven … My eyes will be open and My ears attentive … and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.”
(2 Chronicles 7:14-16)
“Repent … so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus”
(Acts 3:19)
G. Healings
“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire. I brought him
to Your disciples but they could not cure hi. Jesus rebuked the demon … and the child was cured. The disciples came
to Jesus and said, “Why could we not cast him out?” “This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting”
(Matthew 17:15-21)
IV. DANIEL’S LIFE
A. Daniel’s life of prayer – his history in God since his youth (Daniel was over 90 years old in Daniel 6).
“Daniel … knelt down three times that day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as was his custom since
early days. (Daniel 6:10)
B. Special seasons of “setting the heart” through prayer and fasting
“Then he (angel) said to me “Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble
yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom
of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been
left alone there with the kings of Persia.” (Daniel 10:12-13)
“I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food … till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”
(Daniel 10:2-3)
“Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications with fasting, sackcloth, and
ashes. (Daniel 9:3)
“Then it happened, when I, Daniel, had seen the vision and was seeking the meaning, that suddenly there stood
before me one having the appearance of a man. (Daniel 8:15)
